For those with Macs…

I am so frustrated that you can’t take the AICPA practice exams without having Internet Explorer. They seriously need to get with the times! I also cannot buy the Gleim practice MCQ’s and Sim’s b/c they are not Mac compatible, and I couldn’t register online with the Virginia BOA for the exam – had to call!

I’ve already spent so much money but am going to have to spend more to somehow get Windows. Going to the library is out of the question for me b/c I have 2 little ones and study during their naps and after they go to bed.

Someone told me you can install Windows on a Mac, so I’m wondering if that would be the best way to go or if I should buy a netbook?

    TIA!

I am a Mac freak. AICPA practice test for Mac instructions are here: https://www.another71.com/50-things/

Just get the Wiley online…it's a good product and comes with sims 🙂 https://www.another71.com/wiley-cpa-software/

Jeff, it's been a while since I've read the book, but is your solution to add windows OS using bootcamp? If so, it's expensive to buy a copy of windows.

apbandj, I am also a frustrated Mac user. Everyone is different, but for me, the fun features of a Mac do not outweigh compatibility issues. In addition to the practice exam & gleim access, I can't use the wiley cd that came with my yaeger home study program. So my options are to spend money on wiley online or spend money on windows. It's my own fault, but it's frustrating. If you're considering windows or a netbook, I'd go with windows. Most netbooks don't have a cd-rom & you'd need to use an external one (additional cost) to install gleim or wiley (unless they do download codes instead of an install cd). Also, see if your IT dept will allow you to download to your work pc/laptop. If you currently work in accounting/finance, ask your boss & they may make it happen for you. Good luck!

My solution is a $60 program called Parallels…yes you would need to buy windows also (which I did).

Really though – you need to do the AICPA sample test ONCE. Borrow someone's windows computer.

Also – use Wiley online instead of a disc. I believe Yaeger now gives you the choice of which version you want.

Nothing will make me go back to a windows computer. NOTHING! 🙂

    Hey guys,

I have a mac and have had issues as well. For me, I just go to the library and use the computers there for the AICPA exams. My kids are much older….anyway, in terms of the Wiley CD, mine didn't work either. I called Yaeger and Sonny ended up just setting me up with the online version and since then, I don't have any problems with it.

Maybe try asking for the online version instead? Hope that helps.

Jeff & yankee, Thanks for the info on the wiley cd/online option. That option was not available when I ordered. I have not opened my wiley cd and will see if yaeger will exchange for the code. I asked this once before, but they were not able to do it. Maybe I'll have better luck this time. Thanks!

If not – sell the Wiley CD on eBay and buy a Wiley pin @ a discount from me 🙂

Thank you all for your responses. It cracks me up that the AICPA expects us to know all about IFRS which the US hasn't even adopted, yet they can't do something as simple as be Mac compatible. I am now having issues trying to pay for my exam on the NASBA website. I keep entering all the info they need (GPA, College, # of hours, etc) and when I try to go to the next screen it tells me I haven't completed all of the required fields even though I know I have.

@ Jeff – love your site and am already hooked. Need to spend less time on here and more time studying though :0 Your response prompted another question – do you have to have Parallels or could I just switch from the Mac OS to Windows. I don't think I would need to run them concurrently, but just having the ability to switch back and forth on one computer would be nice. Can you do that without Parallels, or do you have to have the program?

@ eatruncpa – I am also a Yaeger HomeStudy student. I am only on week 3 of studying for my first exam so just received my FAR materials a few weeks ago. I did not get a CD with the Wiley book; instead they sent an activation code so I could use the online version. I would give them a call if I were you to see if you can switch.

    @ yankeecpa – cute dog!

apbandj – you need parallels…it lets you run the concurrently. You can't do it without it or Bootcamp.

Glad you like the site! 🙂
