How how do you find the motivation after failing multiple times? I started in August and I’m 0-3 (FAR: 70, 71 AUD: 70). I take BEC tomorrow, but I’m not confident. I studied a lot when I started 5 or so weeks ago, but I had emergency surgery 1 1/2 weeks ago so I was barely able to finish the last chapter.

I don’t want to make excuses, but life events keep happening right before my exams (family members passing and 2 relatively sudden surgeries). To make matters worse this time, I can’t even reschedule because my NTS expires Thursday. I don’t want to quit, but I’m burned out from studying. I’ve giving up time with friends and family sometime, but with nothing to show. With my REG NTS expiring 4/22, does anyone have any tips on how to regroup and get motivated again after so many failures?

    Passed all sections.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. It does help to hear about others experiences. I ran into a former college classmate the other day and gave me the “the exams aren't bad at all, the last one was easy” spiel. You can probably guess how at felt.

I felt I gave my all to FAR, so that's where my frustration comes in. I know my mistake on the retake was not doing the entire program over – rewatch all videos, retake all notes and do MCQs. I mainly focused on old notes, NINJA notes, and MCQs. I took a determined approach starting BEC, but this surgery knocked me out for several days. I flew through my exam today though, so I hope that's a good sign. Up next is REG, which I plan to give everything.

Good luck to everyone on your exams coming up!

    Passed all sections.

Yeah, life kept happening to me too. I buried both my parents between first exam and licensing. It sucks but you have to play the cards you are dealt. If your dream is to be a CPA, the desire will continue to burn in your heart until you complete all four sections. It's the nagging voice in your head that gives you direction. I know it sounds cheesy but it's the truth. I can't tell you how many times I got angry, yelled at my saint of a husband and pouted like a two year old in my study cave. I swore I was done and I wasn't going to try again. Usually, after the initial sting of the fail started to fade, the fire would begin to burn again and I would sign up for a new NTS.

Oh, and don't believe everything your co-workers tell you. Alot…and I mean ALOT…are too pompous or proud to say out loud that they struggled with the exam or failed a section. Whatever…this is YOUR journey…not their's and don't get bogged down by comparing yourself to others. It's a waste of time and energy that could be spent studying. Word!

You can do this. Never give up!

Here is a quote for you!

Courage doesn't always ROAR! Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow!” ~Mary Anne Rademacher

I think I am going to add that to my signature. =)

“Motivation comes and goes like the weather. _______ is the key. “

^Agree w/ mla. Going to fill in that blank with Grit.

The first 16 months of studying, I failed my first 5 parts. (6 of my first 7)

Yet, I'm still going. Still climbing and grinding everyday.

When you to succeed in something badly, you don't need motivation.

Quote from ET – “Find your WHY”

    FAR - 44, 63, 65, 77
    BEC - 57, 77
    AUD - 68, 62, 71, 89
    REG - 66, 79

0-3 isn't bad. I went 0-6 before I finally got the first pass on the seventh attempt. It's no secret that I sat 25 times before I passed the last one. I passed FAR and BEC twice. But every time I got knocked down I knew I had to do one thing. Get. Back. Up.

If you are looking for motivation and inspiration you are in the right place. Baxter went through hell, mla1169 worked 24/7, I lost my dad along the way and finished with thyroid cancer. But we finished. Knowing what the three of us went through, I'd say, you can do this too, if you get back up! Get mad! Find your feet and STAND! Find your voice and say NO MORE!

All of those people who are trying to make you feel like you aren't good enough because this exam is “so easy” are full of it! And “it” ain't fairy dust and rainbows! I've had people tell me “If I had failed as many times as you did, I would have quit.” I just smile at them and with my best southern accent say “Bless your heart dear. I'm happy for you. So you were healthy the whole time, right? Because I passed this b***h knowing I had cancer. How about you? Oh, you didn't have that obstacle in your way. I guess that's how you managed to pass them all so easily. Oh, and your pants are unzipped, you moron.” It's kind of fun to watch them check their zipper in public after they have acted like an a$$hat.

I've become a huge fan of pinterest in the last month, especially since I found out that you can have private boards that no one else can see. I have one called “Things I should not say in public”. A couple of my favorite quotes so far are “Damaged people are dangerous, because they know they can survive.” and “If it does not challenge you, it will not change you.” I can tell you, this exam changed me in so many ways!!

I signed back in just to HIYA Kricket! Well said! =)

I was 0-11 before I passed BEC on the sixth try with a 75!…then I lost it and had to take it TWO more times. Yeah… sometimes it just plain sucks! =/

I've also had people make fun of me to my face for sitting so many times. One memorable time I had just taken REG and someone was laughing at me for failing AGAIN with a 71. What that solid jerk didn't know was that my mom passed away 4 days after I took that exam after a 3 year battle with breast/lung/bone cancer. She died before I could make the drive from IL to SC to be with her because I didn't postpone that exam. (Hindsight is 20/20) I think I found out somewhere in Tennessee that she had gone to Heaven. I remember going into Prometric for REG that day just praying for a pass, I was exhausted to my core and sick with my own health problem. I traveled alot during those three years trying to help look after her…all the while taking exams. That was the ONLY time I seriously considered giving up. You know what… the fire came back when I was ready to try again. My license is pending with the State of Illinois as I type this. Don't ever give up!
