I am really struggling with my decision on which review course to purchase. My employer is offering a fantastic deal on all 4 sections through Becker. Yet, the 18 month expiration really freaks me out. Of course I would love to pass all 4 on the first try within 18 months, but the thought of having to shell out more $$$ if that doesn’t happen is keeping me away. Thoughts? Advice? Will I be doing my self a disservice by not taking advantage of the deal I’m being offered and go with another review course?

Now what the hell do I do?

@MCHammer, have you considered buying one review section at a time? That way, you will not have to pass all 4 parts within the 18 months that you purchased Becker. Instead, you will have the normal 18 months from the start of your first test date.

@amh , I think the way Becker is priced is like buy 3 get 1 free. Like roughly each part is $1,000 and all 4 together is $3,000 so it make not make sense to buy one at a time. Becker does renew the program for free if you complete the entire course and still do not pass.

My employer only gets their massive discount if they buy all 4 sections at once. Total cost to me is around $1,500 so buying 1 at a time isn't an option.

I haven't tried any other review courses, but my employer also paid for my Becker study materials, so it was the one I went with. I've passed 3 of the 4 sections, and have felt that it's prepared me well for the exam. The 18 month expiration also helps to keep you motivated. Plus, your first section expires after 18 months anyway, so I wouldn't let that deter you from taking advantage of your employer's discount. You're getting great study materials at a discount, and I don't think you can go wrong there! Best of luck to you!

I would go with Becker, easily. Assuming you put your mind to it and begin studying as soon as you get the materials, you should be able to pass within the 18 months. Even if you don't, you'll still have the paperback version of the textbook, which will be good enough to study even after your license runs out.

    BEC - 90 (8/19/13)

I'm 2 for 2 with Becker. Went with it as well because my employer discount meant it cost me about $1,500 out of pocket. Depending on how I did on FAR, I may supplement it if a retake is necessary. Definitely seems to be a good foundation. I only felt like 1-2 questions on BEC were not in the materials… otherwise, it has been solid.

$1500 is an absolute steal for the entire package. I paid almost $3600 on my own and so far I am 2 for 3. Don't waste your time going with another CPA program and then wishing you went with Becker after you fail multiple times. Retaking exams accumulate in fees pretty quick as each retake will cost around $250.

Don't make decisions in light of something that “might” happen 18 months from now is my advice.
