Has anyone ever accomplished such a feat? I will be attempting this after my REG exam on 5/11. FAR currently scheduled for 6/9.

First attempt at FAR was a half assed effort. My son had just been born and I was not able to really study consistently. I really only plan to do MCQ’s to get ready this time around. Hopefully a couple thousand will do the trick.

More importantly, if anyone has retaken FAR and passed in less than 30 days, what was your strategy? MCQ's seem to work the best for me – is that sufficient for a retake?

I took 6 weeks for my re-take, however if you are studying full time 28 days is enough. More importantly, focus on quality over quantity. Use the blueprint to your advantage-make sure you know analysis and application level tasks well enough -as those are possible SIMS. I would NOT ignore the SIMS. What review course are you using to study?

I am using Wiley. I will not be studying full time unfortunately. My employer pays for these exams, so I figured I should just go for it and give myself a shot to be completely done by the end of this window. The SIMS are where I was weaker last time, so I definitely plan on studying them. I do think that with more knowledge of the material through pounding MCQ, I could have known enough to apply on the SIMS. They were doable with proper preparation. The first time, I really only skimmed the chapters and did about 800 MCQ's.

Good tip on the blueprints though. The further I have gotten in this process, the more I have consulted the blueprint. It really has helped me narrow down important areas.

My situation was a bit different from your case: I had failed FAR in December, and set the retake for late January before busy season really hit (I'm working full time). I had about four weeks to study, much like you, and passed in January. Taking notes works really well for me, so NINJA was a really good approach. Here's what I did with my NINJA subscription:

I read through, and re-wrote the NINJA notes (these are closely based on the blueprints). That was the first thing I did–it forced me to consider what I really didn't know and needed to re-consider. This also gave me a different perspective from my prior studying (through Becker).

Immediately after re-writing the notes, I worked through 100-200 MCQ each day. FAR is tough, so these questions took me between 3-4 hours each evening. Studying full time, you should be good. I made sure to add something to my notes whenever I missed a question (I re-wrote notes weekly, but you may not like that idea).

I didn't actually work through any sims. I had already taken the exam and had some idea of what they're like. I also didn't have access to any of the lectures at the time…it might be worth listening through these if you need to drive anywhere or go for a walk.

During lunch at work or a commute (when I wasn't driving!), I was working through the flashcards nonstop.

One thing I wish I had done was to run through the online (AICPA?) practice exam–I've heard others say that it is very helpful.

Good luck–full time in 28 days can be done.

I am actually working full time haha so it's going to be a longshot! Ya never know though.. for BEC, the SIMS all aligned with my strengths. Let's hope that is the case for FAR.

Oops…somehow I got it in my head that you were studying full time. I'll say that I also understand the baby distraction…ours decided not to sleep in November and December, and I suspect that made a dent in my studying. Through most of January, the kids barely saw me, and I was actually able to get three to four hours each day. It was exhausting, and I felt sick after the exam, but it can be done.

Also, I think I spent too much energy feeling guilty (spent no time with kids), when I could have focused that last bit of energy on passing the exam.

Again, it can be done. Don't think of it as a “long shot” because that leaves open the door of failure. Think of it as something else…not sure what…but not a long shot.
