LizParticipantHey,
So I just got my failing score for Reg, I’ve never taken a section before. I’m disappointed obviously, just trying to figure out where to go from here.
What are my next steps from here? I’ve read about the “ancillary material” in the forums, but I can’t seem to find the material (unless of course it’s in front of my face and I’m being silly).
I’m feeling pretty down now, I know other people have passed a couple of sections on their first try and I couldn’t even pass one π
Any advice and help would be great on what to do now.

AnonymousInactiveMy advice is to keep your head up…you failed REG which is agreed upon by most to be one of the two hardest tests of all the CPA exams. I got a 68 on my first REG attempt and then regressed back to a high 50 something on my second try. It wasn't until the third shot that I passed it. You learn a lot from actually taking the test and seeing what is on it and really getting an understanding for the level of depth you have to have to pass.
Take the weekend off and relax and mourn your fail and give yourself an honest evaluation on what REG material you REALLY know and really don't know that well – but come Sunday afternoon or evening you've gotta get over it. Start to channel that sadness into madness and get yourself pumped up to pass the next go around. Go read some of the “hall of fame” stories from those on this forum (Baxter, Kricket, Mints) to get you fired up. From that point on there is no more looking back at the fail – just forward to your passing.

AnonymousInactiveSorry for that fail! But on the bright side, you know what to expect next time, and how to study for it! Don't look at those ppl who passed some sections first time try. There are not that many of them out there, and they might just got luckier than you on the exam day! I am sure you know ppl who have failed multiple times and eventually passed. The point is failing a section or two is no big deal. What really matters is how you can pick it up from there and move on to finish them all in the next couple months! Good luck and try to enjoy the studies!

AnonymousInactiveI failed 7 sections before finally passing one (though I only studied for 4 of them). Not sure that helps, but it comes with the territory. Be sad. Reflect. Examine. Plan. I think the biggest thing that helped me was planning things out via systems, not goals. I took a lot of my system from the NINJA strategy so I would recommend looking over some of the free NINJA materials and reading thru Jeff's Survival Guide. Links are, I believe, at the top of the page.

accountabergsParticipant@renlinzabeth I was about to post a similar thread, but saw yours and immediately related to it. I took Becker Live classes for FAR and REG starting in January. Took REG on Feb 20th and cancelled my FAR exam on the 26th. I thought I could do both at first, but was really only able to prepare well enough for one (I chose REG), and that wasn't even enough (received a 70 today). I wasn't super confident after the exam but I thought I had a decent understanding. I knew I was going to be around the 75 mark.
But now I have started studying for AUD and BEC through Becker again, and am starting to think focusing on one subject at a time might make things a bit more manageable. This is where I relate my story to your story…..
You have the option of diving right back into REG while you are fresh, or start a new section. The thing is (and for me too), if you hop back into REG again and fail, then that is a lot of time put in just to be less than 25% complete of the whole process. What I liked about starting a new section is that you kinda of have a “Base Layer” (lol LIFO) of REG and will develop another for a different section. And when you go back to REG, you still won't be starting from scratch.
I obviously don't have an answer for you, and I know everyone has their own methodology and potential. As you can see, I am second guessing every single decision I make about this exam. Could be a good or a bad thing. Meanwhile I have a 8 hour, 2 part class of BEC tomorrow in 7 hours…

AnonymousInactive@accountabergs I've hopped around with taking different sections. I took REG as my first exam during the first part of the window and failed and took BEC in the second part of the window and passed. This time around, I retook REG in January and didn't pass and I took Audit in February (score comes out tomorrow). I'm retaking REG in April, but it'll take less time because I understand most of the basics and the foundation and just need to work on areas I'm weak in (simulations).
