Failed AUD twice because of SIM

Hey everyone. I’ve been reading this forum for a long time now, I need some advice. I took AUD twice, failed with a 74 and a 71. Both times I was stronger in MCQs, but weaker in SIMs. I’m debating if I should take a break from it and take FAR instead, since most of my work problems were on FAR subjects and I obviously struggle in that area. I feel like most people will say to stick with AUD, but I think I need to hear it from somebody else. Sometimes it helps.

Like many of you, I feel comfortable with the AUD material for questions, until I get to work problems. I also want to buy Ninja MCQs and I was wondering if it has good SIMs for the AUD section. I really need more practice on those. Thanks!

The biggest help for AUD SIMS is the AL in the exam. Use it for every SIM. You can literally find answers word for word. Practice searching with your review courses test bank so you can get a feel for where everything is, but just realize that the test will have the full AL and the review courses only have partial AL.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

Mamabear, you took the words out of my mouth. I felt really prepared for the MCQ, due to my audit professor in college giving us three semesters of tests that were 150 CPA exam-type questions in 150 minutes. But my SIMS scores were consistently lower in Wiley. However, I was able to find 2/3 of the answers in the Authoritative Literature.

I did not have that same experience with the AL. The way I prepared for the AUD SIMs was to do all of them in WTB, and I brushed up on basic journal entries and ratios like from FAR as recommended here. Think in terms of what kind of correcting journal entries an auditor might suggest (such as overstated sales and how that affects other accounts) and what kind of ratio analysis an auditor might do, and those are the areas to focus on in your prep.

I bet Ninja MCQ has good SIMs based on my experience with the other Ninja products, but I don't know firsthand.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

The AL is a great tool, just be cognizant of your time – 10 minutes researching through that data may only feel like a minute.
