“On March 6th and 7th, Dr. Gleim and I attended the annual AICPA Review Course Providers meeting in New York. This year some very big future changes were announced, but don’t panic: the AICPA’s goal is to launch the new exam in 2016 at the earliest (but they clarified that it could be as late as 2019)….As far as the big future changes go, everything is open for possible consideration by the AICPA. For example, the new exam, which the AICPA is currently referring to as CBT-3, could be as much as 80% Simulations. The goal is to ensure that candidates understand how to apply accounting principles, rather than simply memorize terms and formulas. Thus, it will be more of a skills based test than a knowledge based test. Since this is a change that won’t be effective until at least 2016, you should continue to focus on multiple-choice answering techniques and sit for your exams before this revision. Remember that even with multiple choice, mere memorization is not the goal, and you will answer more questions correctly by understanding the material in your review and how to apply it. Another big change under consideration is in the number of sections. In the future, there could be as few as three or as many as six or seven exam sections, as well as a capstone section.”

Can you imagine if it’s 80% task based simulations!!!!!!!

    80% SIMs?…wow.

I should invest my $$$ on Pfizer now.

I think it may be time to go to a surgeon and put a computer chip in my brain.

That's terrifying. Doubt it will go to the extremes, but the thought is terrifying. If that's not motivation to never let your license expire, then I don't know what is!

Hhaha I like the chip in the brain idea but i wonder if they (pro metric) will start scanning our heads to see if we have those implants LOL.

Well they didn't say what they were doing to the scope of information. If they reduce the relevant information, but require greater understanding of it, it is not only is a doable exam but it makes a lot of sense. Even the possibility of requiring more exams (assuming they don't expand the material at all) could make it more doable. With that said, in existing format, an 80% SIM exam would be a nightmare. Could you imagine FAR as it exists in an all or 80% SIM structure? UGH.

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?

Am I weird for preferring sims?

    REG- (1) 76
    FAR- (2) 64, (5)74, (7)83 (Over achiever!)
    AUD- (3) 70, (4) 75
    BEC- (6) 75

tomq04 – perhaps not so much weird but more one of the few people that like the SIM's and do well in them.

I just received the same letter from Gleim. Look like they try to push all procrastinators into taking the exam early. The news of increasing the number of exam sections would scare a lot of people I suppose

    BEC 91 (01/06/13)
    REG 91 (01/24/13)
    FAR 86 (02/10/13)
    AUD 93

    Feel so close 😀

Holy crap! SIMS for 80% sounds like suicide. All the more motivation to get this thing done before then!

    FAR - 89 02/27/14
    REG - 88 04/30/14
    AUD - 90 7/3/14
    BEC - 87 8/30/14 DONE!

    Too many passing and passing beyond 75. they monitor these type of sites and draw from our successes and failures that we share. It is agreed that most of us hate sims and rather not do them. Some have even passed without doing the best job with the sims. I think they should do it as a continue ed for those that do not have the sign off experience. Maybe attend a year long training with actual accounts applying the principles instead of making the test more crazy than it is;

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

Too many drones from Asia just cramming the test. I think they are trying to stop these practices .

Most of us will hopefully pass by then, so I got to say this is great news. A harder exam means more prestige with the license and less CPA's out there.

That being said, 80% sims is a nightmare.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"
