Doing well on MC but absolutely destroyed by simulations. Help?!!

    Hey all,

I’ve taken two of the four exams so far. AUD and REG. I scored 73 on AUD and 69 on REG. I’m using Becker review and spent well over 100 hours studying for each exam. I go through each lecture and do the associated homework right after. Once I get through all the material. I re-read each section and do the MC again for that section. I also work the simulations once over. I find that I do really well on the multiple choice… comparable or stronger in each of the broad topics according to my score reports.

When it comes to the simulations though I get completely destroyed. I’m fine with the research questions and can find those but most of the simulation content looks foreign and exponentially harder than Becker’s practice simulations. One of my simulations for REG was farm income… even though the Becker review course emphasized farm income is very rarely tested and not worth it to study.

I have BEC coming up on July 7th and have realized that taking all four exams in one NTS was a mistake. I’m praying I’ll pass BEC since there is a written portion instead of simulations and it’s only 15% of the total score. How can I better prepare for the simulations? The goal was to get all four out of the way before I start working in early September but that’s not going to happen now. Should I just skip FAR and get a new NTS for AUD + REG with the remaining 2 months after I take BEC?

I’m on the edge of my sanity and just want this nightmare to be over. Any tips/help are greatly appreciated!

Your allowed to use research tab for every sim….. so use it!!! When I start studying for a new section, I don't practice sims at all just because they take so long to do, I make sure I am comfortable with all the material by watching lecture, take notes, MC in that order. At the end of each section I do progress tests of current section and prior section together. Then at the end I practice each SIM using the research tab to find the answer. By doing this you get quicker and quicker at finding the answer in the authoritative body of knowledge and increase your skill at interpreting what it is actually telling you to do. I would suggest practicing each SIM using the research tab, it's basically allowing you to do the SIMS with your book in front of you.. obv if you know the answer alrdy you can save time by not looking up the answer.

Try practicing this way and see what ya think.

    A - 89 10/23/2014
    R - 90 2/27/2014
    F - 75 5/25/2014
    B - 83 8/28/2014

I'm the same way..strong/comparable for MCQs, weaker for SIMS. For my 3rd round with AUD, I bought the NINJA MCQ and really focused on SIMS. I did well over 100 SIM questions, making sure to scour the AL on all of them. Since you can print your individual SIM question scores with NINJA, I did that and re-did questions that I scored really low on. Even if I wasn't 100% on them, I was at least making improvement. The SIMS really challenge you to apply the knowledge in ways that aren't so obvious, so even if you don't see an exam SIM similar to what you practiced, you'll have had the practice navigating the AL.

    A - 67, 64, 92!!
    R - 61, 75!
    B - 80!
    F - 68, 78!! DONE!
