smyoung0521ParticipantI just took my first exam BEC and I failed it with a 64. I am debating studying for it and retaking in November or taking another exam next such as FAR. I know that FAR is the beast but it seems like if you get it, then it helps you to understand the others a bit more. For example when I began my study program the instructor made comments, many times, as you may remember from Financial lectures. Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions or feedback on which is the better option: stick with BEC retake or switch to another exam, specifically FAR? I am about to hit busy season at work (from what I am told, just started 3 weeks ago) and it goes from November-May.

wowurrcoolMemberFAR definitely prepares you for AUD and touches on topics that will be tested in BEC and REG. I would suggest taking FAR first in order to pass “the beast” without having to worry about the 18 month timer.
I just passed BEC after passing FAR and didn't find too much overlap between the two sections. Some items are introduced in BEC that are much more detailed in FAR. The Becker instructors often said things along the lines of, “You should know this exists, but we'll cover that in greater detail in FAR!.”
FAR - 87 (7/19/13)
BEC - 82 (8/29/13)
REG - 86 (10/18/13)
AUD - 91 (12/06/13)Becker. Licensed VA CPA 12/31/13

Last chanceMemberIf i were you, i'll stick with Bec and do Far next.
I suffer a long time juggling the two exams back and forth
Now when i apply for nts, i apply for only one!! exam, not two!
I know some people told me i should've taken Far first, then Bec. But i jump into Bec first and saved the beast for the last.
I know some of materials from Far can help you on bec. But Bec has it's own contents that's totally different from Far. Like IT, Econ, cost….
Unless your nts is expiring.. Dont jump into Far now! That will take another 3months to go back to bec (for me it will)

RandomAltMember@wowurrcool …In your opinion, do you think it is best to take AUD after FAR. I started another post asking a similar questions. I am about to take FAR, but not confident I will pass. I want to take something next that will have overlap, and help my transition back to studying FAR in case I need to retake it.
FAR - [10/07/2013 --> 66] [07/07/2014 --> 86]
BEC - [08/31/2014 --> 86]
AUD - [11/24/2014 --> 88]
REG - [02/14/2015 --> 92]September 12, 2013 at 12:59 pm #445158

kaywaleeParticipantI took FAR a few times and failed so, I decided to to try AUD with some new study aids like leactues and notes. AUD was new to me but after preping and sit the exam at the begining of the window I tested. I failed by 9 point at my first time with AUD. I did see alot of overlapping with FAR since I haved studied that topic.
For FAR, I also changed my study habits and got some new material and sat that part at the end of the August window. I got a 70, missed it by 5 points.
So, I have decided to retake FAR in the early part of the October window and retake AUD at the last day of the close of the Oct/November window.
What I have learned to to block out some time and just stick to the notes, problems and Q and A's.
As for Far and Audit, it seems like they both ties in together in a sense that if you understand the F/S for FAR then, with Audit you will be able to understand the flow.
Good Luck to all!

wowurrcoolMember@Randomalt I agree with kaywalee's view on the similiarities between AUD and FAR. I would definitely say that AUD has the most overlap with FAR out of the remaining 3 exams.
In my opinion, REG would probably have the 2nd most overlap. BEC can really be taken last since it's a bit of a hodge podge of general business concepts.
FAR - 87 (7/19/13)
BEC - 82 (8/29/13)
REG - 86 (10/18/13)
AUD - 91 (12/06/13)Becker. Licensed VA CPA 12/31/13

LT-PMember@RandomAlt I would definitely recommend taking FAR before AUD. For one, being able to pass FAR gave me much more confidence in myself. Second, there are a bunch of little topics in AUD that mention (without elaborating on) topics from FAR, the Becker book will even tell you “See Financial 5”.
- passed all 4 exams on my first try using Becker!
Ethics: TBD

MalissaParticipantI would recommend taking FAR before any other test. By having the basic knowledge required to pass far you have the foundation for the rest of the tests. For BEC you have to understand basic accounting concepts so that you can explain them in the written section of the test. For AUD you have to know how financial statements work to know what's wring with them in audit situations. Very important for the sims. For REG I remember numerous questions about the difference between book and tax income and expenses. FAR gives you the foundation for all of the other subjects. Yes it is a beast, and yes it covers a ton of material. But once conquered the rest of them should be a little bit easier, because the basic concepts will be hammered into your head.
But this is just my opinion.

MiserylovescompanyParticipantIMHO, no as far as the material is concerned. It may help slightly with REG as noted in an earlier post. If you can pass FAR first, the rest of the exams are a cakewalk as far as endurance is concerned! Using Becker as an example, it has 10 FAR chapters/lessons. I believe the rest of the exams range between 5 and 7 chapters'lessons.
AUD: Passed
REG: Passed
BEC: Passed
FAR: Passed -
