Does anyone take sleeping pills the night before?

I know I am going to have so much trouble sleeping tonight as I have REG tomorrow. This one is so much pressure b/c if I don’t pass, I lose my AUD credit so I’m just sick at my stomach thinking about not passing. My mother in law gave me an ambien and said it should help me sleep tonight. I have never taken sleeping pills before other than like Excedrin PM or something. My test is at noon and I’ll be leaving the house around 11:15. I plan on trying to go to bed at 10:00 (I usually go to bed at midnight). I’m wondering if I should take the pill considering I’ll get in a full 8 hours of sleep?

I don’t know what to do. I want to sleep well but I don’t want to feel groggy tomorrow (like I do today from tossing and turning all night). Ugh.

    Anyone have any input?

I'd be weary of taking a drug like that not knowing how your body will react to it. What I've done in the past was to just take 2 Excedrin PMs and went to bed earlier than usual. If you really want to give this ambien a shot, maybe try taking it at 9 or 9:30 so that you're asleep by 10. That way you'll have a full 8 hours to sleep it off and have an extra few hours to recover from any grogginess you may experience.

gms, I would not take ambien or any sleeping pills, in my opinion you will feel more groggy after taking a sleeping pill than trying to sleep without it. Try to do something relaxing tonight, perhaps long shower, long walk or even a movie, whatever relaxes you. Perhaps have a chamomile tea before bed.

I have been taking this test many times and it is normal that anxiety of the test a day before does not let us sleep well, but i would not taking any sleeping pills, because they do affect our mind the next day. I am being fighting stupid cold and I am staying away from medicine because they make me feel like on drugs and it clouds my mind.

Good luck tomorrow! You can do it! Remember to take a deep breath! Think you will pass not otherwise!

I would NOT take any sort of sleeping pills.. you never know how your body might react, and you will probably feel very tired on the day of the exam anyway… So I would just continue doing what you're doing… stick it through until exam day and the day of your test, chug a RedBull or some coffee…and eat enough so you don't get hungry during the test! I usually take food with me and pork-out during a break. Good luck!

I would happily give you some of my exhaustion to help you fall asleep and help me stay awake studying 🙂

    Good luck tomorrow!

For FAR & BEC I scheduled my exams at 8am so I could get them out of the way. The only problem is that I couldn't sleep well the night before because I was afraid I was going to oversleep even though I set like 3 alarms in my room LOL

For REG I scheduled it at noon and I had no problem sleeping the night before because I wasn't worried about oversleeping. I'm planning to do the same for AUD.

I took an ambien before my first section FAR a couple weeks ago. It is totally fine especially if you get anxiety as I do and would not sleep a wink if you didnt. Just take it around 8:30 go to bed by 9 and wake up at 6-7 feeling well rested.

    Cheers,

I would absolutely not ever take a prescription med that was not prescribed for me, you don't know if the dosage is the same for you as it would be for her and this is no time to mess around. The absolutely most I might try is a tylenol pm or a melatonin. But also try the warm milk, warm bath, etc.

No. But I could barely sleep the day before for all 4 exams. Not that I felt tensed or anxious 🙂

I've never tried any sleeping pills before, OTC or prescribed. However, I have taken NyQuil PM just to fall asleep. However, even after I get 8 full hours of sleep, I always feel groggy and dazed the next day for about half the day.

So I'm with everyone else on this…don't take the pill unless you know how your body will react to it. You might end up dozing off at the test center and wasting $200 lol

I take Klonopin the night before. Ambien is a lot stronger (I mainly take it for recreational purposes, though it's a very effective sleeping pill). I'd probably advise against it since you WILL feel groggy the next day. If you are absolutely sure you won't fall asleep tonight, then you probably ought to consider taking HALF of a pill, since some sleep is better than no sleep and a little grogginess is better than being a complete zombie, but really for you to decide. Good luck, I take the REG beast on Wednesday. You are probably asleep already but in case you are still awake…..DON'T TAKE A FULL PILL!!!

    @nnenna:

All I did for the AUD sims was just do all of the ones in the Becker software, plus a few of the ones in the Wiley online testbank. I went through the Becker ones twice the week before my exam. I think practicing all of the homework questions was most valuable for the AUD sims though, when it came to my test. I also found it useful to use the research tab to help me out on one or two of the sims during my test when I got stumped, since there was plenty of time to make use of it. They really weren't that bad to be honest, plus you should have plenty of time.

Any advice for me on the REG sims? I'm scared to death of those, this board has successfully managed to completely psych me out for that test.

I took a unisom pill the night before FAR really helped me relax and sleep better. Those don't give you any side effects. I would say stay away from ambien at all costs… I had to take that when I was pregnant and in the hospital and I hallucinated BAD…. no prescription sleeping pills!

Thanks all! I DID NOT take the pill. Instead, I drank a BIG glass of wine and dozed off just fine.
