Do you write or type your notes?

    The idea of writing your notes seem very daunting to me. There are so many things you have to learn and so many pages to go through. I always typed my notes in college and that seemed like what everyone did. It seems like a lot of people here write their notes. Its very tiring writing so many pages of notes. After a while my hand starts hurting. Do you guys think I’ll be able to retain the information just as easily if I typed my notes?

    If typing your notes worked for you in college, it will probably work for these exams, as well. I prefer writing, because I can recall pages of handwritten notes better in my mind. I can remember where it was on the page and retrieve information that way. Typed notes obviously all look the same, so that doesn't work for me. I think there have also been studies that show that writing your notes can increase retention, because of muscle memory and more actively engaging the brain or something.

    I have also heard that about hand written notes and retention. My friend swears by it and has finally convinced me πŸ™‚

    So, rewriting my notes is one of the new ways I will battle FAR and AUD in the next window!

    I did both for FAR. It's important to write down the journal entries. For all other exams I typed my notes but I used colorful highlighters and bold font for important stuff. It did help to have about 15-20 pages to review as opposed to having the whole textbook to go through during review.

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

    I typed my notes for FAR, REG and BEC. Writing is so helpful because, at least for me, you're probably not going to write down something that makes no sense. And I'm a very organized person so having everything in a sequence that I like is great. Also it's easier to customize them when they're hand-written (brackets, arrows, etc.)

    - passed all 4 exams on my first try using Becker!

    Same as previous posts, I write em by hand and find I retain info. better that way.. but if you're handwriting is anything like mine, make sure it's legible for when you review your notes later on πŸ˜‰ (happens to me all the time that I can't read what I wrote lol)

    I make it a habit NOT to take any notes. But I take screenshots of questions that I need take a look at.

    REG = 58 (02-20-13), 75 (05-01-13)
    AUD = 67 (05-29-13), 79 (08-29-13)
    BEC = 83 (07-31-13)
    FAR = 72 (10-29-13), 69 (02-27-14), 73 (04-16-14), 81(08-13-14)

    Study Materials = Becker 2013 + Wiley Online Test Bank
