    Hi everyone.

After taking BEC yet again yesterday I thought to myself “I just can’t to this anymore”…

I’ve been studying for the exam now for the last 2 years and have only passed one. Each time I have come so close, 72, 73, 74. At this point I am just ready to give up. I think its more that I am not studying the correct way because I do find the time but still can’t pass…I am at the point now where I need to pass at least 3 by March to get promoted this summer and can’t even imagine that happening right. I’ve never been one to just give up but I am just at a loss now. I’ve always told my self never to give up because I know it will be somehting I will regret but I just can’t deal with the feeling of failure time and time again.

If anyone has any advice it was be greatly appreciated. I pretty much have hit rock bottom with this exams.

What material are you using to study? Have you switched that around and tried a different teaching style/technique? Are you using a test bank at all?

As you can tell from my signature line I have failed many times…and was on the verge of throwing in the towel completely if I didn't pass FAR last November. I'm now 75% there…I changed things up a bit…changed a bit of my review material, and honestly I changed my study habits. You can do this…”the most important thing is to be able to at any moment to sacrifice what you are for what you will become!!” I got that from Jeff's posting of a motivation speech. I took the time to write it down and put it on my monitor at work and I constantly remind myself that I can pass this exam. Positive self talk goes a long way!! Good luck!!

FAR- 72, 65,67, 53, 75 (truth be known the 53 was with 4 hours of studying)
    AUD-58, 62, 72, 74, 74, 75
took 5 years but I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    NEVER GIVE UP!!!

i've been studying since 2006 and failed 12 times before my first pass Q1 this year. if you are putting in the time then the problem is definitely in the way you are studying. unfortunately, only you can figure that out. i have never been a good student in school so it has been trial and error for me on finding out how i learn best.

are you using the same studying material? i used becker as my main studying material but changed to yaeger this year

if what you are currently doing doesn't work you have to change something

    DON'T GIVE UP!

I first sat for the exam in 1997-1999..when it was only offered 2x/ year. Never really studied and never came close to passing any parts. When I was looking to switch jobs last year, I got the same question on every interview…why don't you have your CPA? I have yet to come up with a good response. So after an 11 year hiatus, I passed BEC in Nov '10. I then got engaged and married in 2011 and kept re-scheduling FAR…first Jan, then Feb, then April, then July on last day of NTS. I never got through the material and knew I failed. I was ready to give up. So I decided to take REG in Aug and if I failed that I was going to pack it in. Well, I did fail FAR but I narrowly passed REG…I'm halfway there. So now I'm taking FAR & AUD this window. I'm using Becker for FAR and getting up early and studying for an hour, flashcards on the train for a half hour and 2 hours at night. I used Bisk for BEC (Bob Monet is great) and Yaegar for REG. It's all about figuring what works best, sticking to your plan and devoting the time necessary to pass. I regret I didn't do this 12 years ago when I had all the free time in the world. You can do this. The long term rewards will far outweigh this short term sacrifice. Get to work!

    BEC (11/10) 77 (Bisk)
    FAR 7/2 - 63 11/5 - 80 (Yeager - Fail, Becker - Pass)
    Reg (08/11) - 78 (Yeager)
    Aud - 11/29 - 78(Yeager)

If you can look yourself in the mirror and say that you didn't cut corners, didn't skip studying to go booze or hang out with your special someone or watch tv, and you are 100% sure that you gave it your very best effort and commitment, then I'd say it's ok to quit and it is not meant to be. If you just gave it a pretty good or ok effort or anything less than a 100% full time commitment, then you owe it to yourself to keep going.

I don't know your study habits, but you have to completely put your life on hold. I studied 3 months for FAR & BEC and I had no life. I ignored my family and friends for the most part but they understand what I'm doing. I'm currently studying for REG, and it sucks because I'm studying right in the middle of my favorite season….COLLEGE FOOTBALL! lol But I know if I get REG and AUD out of the way in the next 3 months I'll be able to enjoy college football next season. Oh, and be a CPA at the same time 🙂

It depends, if this is something you really truly want, NEVER give up. If you're doing this because you think you have to or someone else expects you to, then let it go.

If it wasn't meant to be, your scores wouldn't be as close as they are.

I hate to say this in this motivational type environment, but in reality the majority of people aren't cut out to he cpas, otherwise every one and their kid brother would be a cpa…its not easy.

The majority of “accountants” probably don't have the desire to be CPAs, but once someone decides they are going to do it – approx. 80%ish cross the finish line. It takes some longer than others…we all get the same certificate.

@mla1169-I don't understand why you think what another74cpa had something offensive? Or did something get edited in the meantime?

@keeptrying – I deleted one of Another74's posts. It was inappropriate.
