Just got my score for FAR, 72. I have BEC scheduled for Friday and I know I’m not ready. I’m thinking about postponing BEC and getting back to FAR to take it 10/1. Then BEC before the end of the test window. Also I’m debating buying ninja notes or cram or something. Any advice from those who have been there.

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

I don't know what you guys did the first time around (review program, notecards, MCQs, etc…) so I think to get good advice you might want to be more specific.

I know restudying is different than studying for the first time but if I had to restudy I would make sure I did the SIMS at the end of every chapter. It wasn't until I was doing my 2 week review that I realized that the SIMS helped me understand the material better than the MCQs did. Several people have posted that SIMS are a waste of time because they will not be like the ones you get on the exam. That may be true for those people but it was not true for me.

    BEC: I defeated the Siren!
    AUD: I eliminated Medusa!
    REG: ?????

Well, I'm going to start from scratch and do everything. From where I am everything means something. So here I am from the top (beginning).

I'm using Roger CPA Review, I also have the NINJA audio. I think I'm going to first postpone BEC until after FAR's retake. I'm going to reread Roger's book and hit the m/c. My biggest question this morning was whether or not to take BEC next week. I will continue using my ninja audio and maybe review lectures for areas that I need it.

I guess taking BEC next week would depend on how you feel about it as well as when your NTS expires….

One Pro of going at FAR again is you will still remember a lot of what you just went over….

One Con of rescheduling BEC is the cost associated with rescheduling…

My main advice is don't give up because you will pass these tests!

I got my disappointing news last night about failing Far (I thought I was ok with it) …..I cried and cried this morning then realized it could be worse. My youngest sister is dealing with breast cancer and here I am crying over a test.

Well, I was really depending on passing the first part for momentum toward Aud and Reg in the next window. I planned to use the rest of August and September to prepare for Oct/Nov window. Now I feel stuck.

Should I take Far in Oct/Nov or move on to Aud and put Far at the end?

Just feel real empty and unsure right now, I know, I know this is a long hard battle.

How long will the insecure feeling of failure last?

I passed FAR the first time I took it, but got just enough to pass (83) and not a super high score. I think it really depends on what kind of a learner you are – my short term memory is much better than my long term memory, so I knew that the last 7-10 days would be crucial for me. For the last 10 days, I focused on one Becker chapter each day. I redid all the multiple choice questions, the sims and made notes on things I thought were tough. Before that, I had seen each lecture once and done the multiple choice questions once. Luckily, I was in that transition time between graduating and starting my job, so I was able to take 10 days off to do some intensive studying. If you can take a few days off before the exam, I would highly suggest it.

Another strategy that helped me a lot was a test taking one. I realized when doing the MCQs that I was taking a lot less time than Becker recommended for the questions. I just solved them/ went with my instinct and hit the options I thought were right and did pretty well. During a practice exam, I decided to go slower, double check my answer, read every option etc. I changed quite a few answers – a lo and behold – most of them were wrong. People sometimes don't realize that doing a million multiple choice questions helps you develop a sixth sense, an instinct, a judgement about questions. So if your gut is telling you an answer is right, go with your gut! Sure, you may get a few wrong for silly mistakes if you don't double check, but in my opinion, you'll always get far more wrong if you overthink the questions. I finished FAR with over an hour to spare and had to force myself to just click done and get out of the chair instead of obsessing over the sims and changing answers that were originally right.
