Did you watch video lectures? Are they necessary?

I am finishing Reg and doing it with Yeager. I honestly only watch them to highlight what i need to know (IE so that i know what i need to study in order to avoid reading the whole chapters).

I am not really sure i am benefiting much more then that from watching the videos , i guess i do remember some stuff by watching it but i think it would be alot more efficient for me to just get Ninja Notes and study those then do MCQ questions.

I talked to the CPA at my work and she said that REG videos were useless but i should watch FAR videos because the instructor is good. My next exam is FAR.

Anyway what do you think ? I know it will vary from person to person.

    REG-77
BEC -Waiting on score May 5th
    AUD - May 30
FAR - Q3 depending on if i pass above two in Q2

Expensive study videos are becoming less and less necessary.

If you were taking BEC next, I would say skip the videos completely and use NINJA Book (https://www.another71.com/introducing-ninja-book-bec/).

I believe NINJA Notes + NINJA MCQ would be just fine for FAR…you would want to treat NINJA MCQ like it was a video course and take really good notes.

I am using CPAexcel for REG. The videos for ethics and business law seem all right. The videos for the tax sections are long and convoluted. I am just going to switch to just using the study text and completely skip the videos when I get to the tax sections.

I watched all the videos for BEC and my first AUD take. I passed BEC and failed AUD. I retook AUD 3.5 months later without watching the videos and passed. I attribute that to adding the Ninja Audio/Notes/Flashcards and the WTB to my studies. I watched 1 or 2 videos for FAR and decided not to watch anymore and focus on quizzing. I passed that one too. I don't have videos or a book for REG. I'm going into it with CPAExcel Notes, ninja notes/audio/flashcards and the Ninja MCQ. It really depends on your learning style. I learn better by doing that watching.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

Yaeger's BEC lecture is pretty much verbatim straight from the Wiley book. I found watching the videos most useful for solving the MCQs which is helpful because they often solve the problems in a different way than the textbook. The most absolutely annoying part of the BEC lectures was Cindy's earrings click clacking against the microphone, that drove me nuts.

For the other three exams, I found the lectures useful overall.

    FAR 75
    AUD 74, 82
    REG 58, 74, 83
    BEC 68, 75
    Licensed 7.1.14!!!

I think the Becker videos are helpful, but a lot of people on this forum poke fun/are legitimately annoyed by some presenter mannerisms. They work well to give you the material in more than one medium at the same time and some of the acronyms/memory tools seemed to stick for me because I heard them being read to be. Maybe I'm a 5 year old longing for storytime, but I thought the videos made all the info easier to understand.

    REG - 2/4/14 - 94
    BEC - 2/27/14 - 93
    FAR - 4/14/14 - 95
    AUD - 5/12/14 - 96

"Overstudying" = take the test once. (Becker only)

Becker video's are great. Yea sure it's boring but how do you make talking about income statements for 3 hours interesting? it's impossible. Plus they say things over and over again so it sticks in your head. I swear on the FAR exam i heard Tim and Pete talking to me telling me answers.

Jeff i am strongly STRONGLY considering doing Ninja Notes + Ninja MCQ for FAR.

I printed sample Ninja Notes for Reg and really like the individual taxation part.

Do Ninja Notes cover pretty much everything you think will be on the exam or are they more condensed version of notes where it only covers the main topics?

    REG-77

    AUD - May 30
FAR - Q3 depending on if i pass above two in Q2

If a CPA Review book is a 10,000 foot view, then NINJA Notes is a 30,000 foot view, I'd say…I'm erring on the side of conservatism here 😉

People have passed with it and MCQ only in the past.

NINJA MCQ is robust enough and has embedded explanations, it can be done without a book.
