Did you do well on BEC having been out of school for a while?

    Hi,

I keep reading threads and posts about people who took and passed BEC with 2-3 weeks of studying so I wanted to know if that was completely reasonable or do those people already have a pretty good grasp of that material coming straight out of school so it was just easier for them to review the material in 2-3 weeks as opposed to “learning” it all over again while “reviewing.”

I’ve been out of school for a few years now and I’m currently studying for BEC and honestly everything appears new again so I guess I’m just looking for some validation that people out of school for a while have studied and taken this exam and passed with about a month’s study time.

    Thanks

IMO, BEC material is super random compared to the other 3 exams. I feel that it is the one that is more doable than the rest without work experience or recalling class materials.. But yu still have to put the work in and study hard for it like the others. The reason people fail BEC is because they tend to underestimate the difficulty of the test.

I've been out of school way longer than three years and I passed after studying for three months. Some would say that was overkill, but I did what I had to in order to pass and it worked.

I remember feeling like I was being reacquainted with the material rather than re-learning it. If you're feeling like you are re-learning the material, then 4 weeks of study might not be sufficient, unless you're super quick on the uptake.

So far, do you think you have a strong grasp of the concepts you've covered? If so, look at how much time you've spent and how much you have to go. That should give you an idea if 4 weeks of study will adequately prepare you.

Many people underestimate BEC. So, don't sleep on it. It's just as ferocious as the other dragons. May strong and fruitful studies be with you!

I studied in two weeks having been out of school for a while but this was under the old format.

BEC is definitely the “cookie jar” of the CPA exam. If they want to test some odd subjects you can bet BEC will get it. It means that adequate preparation for any and all subjects is important (IT especially). Just follow your review course and it will come to you. I do not think college translates as well as one might think for CPA study. The review courses do a great job of getting you where you need to be, but that's just my opinion.

Also, take the time needed to study and try not to rush. Like Floreat said, Even BEC can give you problems if you cut corners trying to speed through it.

    Good luck!

I would agree that college experience doesnt matter in BEC. I dont remember ever learning about these things in school but luckily I am not illiterate when it comes to technology. Asking about routers, RAIDs, ROM vs RAM were all throwaway questions for me. I reviewed that part of my study program only once and focused on the things I have never heard of before.

I studied for BEC for 5 weeks and wouldn’t do anything less than that if you work full time. Was out of school 6 years when I started studying for the exam. Some material like Econ sounded familiar but I was learning most topics from scratch.

Ninja mcq for BEC kicked my ass and it was the only study material I used for that section.
