I tried the regular method of studying and preparing ahead of time but being a single parent and working in public accounting its hard to find time. So I’ve tried what I call the cram and take method. It’s so far has sort of worked out for me. But it looks like I might have to actually put in the time for BEC and well I’m preparing for FAR with 6 full days. How’s it working out for you besides getting distracted and looking at anohter71.com?

That's what I'm doing cause I had to put my energy into REG and I've had a short time to prep for FAR that expired. Here I am goofing off. I've had half the time I usually put into studying, but I think I could still have a shot at passing. My exam is May 28. Good luck!

    FAR Passed 5/28/14
    AUD Passed 1/22/13
    BEC Passed 7/12/13
    REG Passed 5/9/14
Virginia CPA license issued July 2014

I would not recommend this method of high stress studying for most people; it is very physically and mentally demanding.

I am cramming to finish the CPA because I have no other choice. As such, I have about two and a half months to do it.

My strategy is as follows. I allocated two to three weeks per section. I study for two to four hours a day to get a general feel for each section. Then about 4 days before my exam, I would spend about 8-14 hours a day reviewing all the questions I missed. I book my exams for 7:00 or 8:00 AM. The night before the exam is an always an nighter. I load up on sugar and caffeine and cram as much as I can.

By the time of my exam, I am wide awake and pumped for the test. I am a relatively quick test taker so I usually rush through each testlet. Coming down from technique sucks. My body feels like crap and I feel like I am going to get sick every time. I also get very irritable.

Pros: Efficient. It is relatively easy to recall facts as they are fresh in my head.

Cons: Most likely bad for my health. I don't remember most of what I study after a week.

Give this method a try if your current method is not working. You may be pleasantly surprise at how effective it can be. GL

Yes, I agree it is most likely unhealthy and is physically/mentally demaning. After completing the exam I have gotten sick once and the other time I was able to fight it off.

I can't use this method because 250 bucks is too much for me to just flush down the drain but I almost did it for Reg. Then when I saw I was getting 50 on Sims and MCQs still I decided to push it back over 4 months, still don't feel prepared after 6 months of studying.

I dont know if I understand this correctly, but are you guys claiming to be able to take FAR in 2 weeks and passing?

I wouldn’t mind doing it even if is unhealthy. The only problem is that I don’t think is possible for a person with average intelligence. Taking FAR after cramming for 2 weeks and passing it? Passing all 4 parts in one window? You guys are very smart.

I haven't done it for FAR and FAR will probably give me a reality check. However, if I fail I'll just look at it as a practice test and have a better feel of what to expect.

I tried it for FAR – studied for about a week and a half. Pulled a 72. I hadn't looked at an accounting book in a few years (I work in tax), but if you have a solid baseline understanding of the material, I think it's doable. Tons and tons of MCQs, and any short cram videos you can get to help reinforce the topics you're struggling with. It's not going to be fun, but if you're under a time crunch, I'd say it's worth a shot.

    Good luck!

I tried the cram method the first time around years ago. It definitely didn't work out for me. Some people can do it, I wasn't one of them.

I've taken about 5-6 weeks for BEC and for me that might be pushing it.
