Hey everyone, I just graduated college this month and unfortunately I wasn’t able to land a job before I graduated so I’ve decided to study for the CPA exam. I’ve decided to take Becker self-study. My question is: should i buy all 4 parts together ($3000) or should I buy them one part at a time ($4000 total)?

I am looking to work full-time asap and have been reaching out to employers, though I have no idea how long it will be until I actually do get hired somewhere. I’m just worried about one or two parts expiring before I even get to use them because I might get hired somewhere and work like crazy but then again it might be a while before that even happens. What are your opinions on it?

Do you have your heart set on Becker or are you open to other review courses? I know Yaeger and Roger are a whole lot cheaper and are great courses (I personally used Yaeger).

The only disadvantage I can think of by buying all 4 at one time is if you decide you want to change review courses along the way. However, just from reading these forums it seems that most people are able to eventually pass with the original review course they purchased.

Buy all 4 from 1 review course and STICK to it. Have faith and trust whatever review course you choose. I used Becker, so I'll be biased and recommend it as it helped me pass all 4. In the end, all review courses should have similar questions licensed from the AICPA. Your decision should be based on your learning style. Definitely demo the courses before you fork any money over to them.

I had Becker given to me and ended up hating it and getting Roger. I didn't really use Becker though so I can't say that it sucks, just that it wasn't for me.

you weren't asking for advice on which review course (insert plug for Roger CPA Review here), but my point is, make sure that you REALLY can work with the review course you pick. Its cheaper to buy all 4 sections so that would be my recommendation, but again- pick carefully, because you'll waste even more money otherwise 🙁

I would purchase all four parts. What else are you going to do? I doubt the parts will expire if you are studying full time.

+1 to what jenuno & Sandra said. Make sure you're ready to commit to Becker.

Thanks for the responses guys. I do hav my heart set on Becker, I don't think the old school method is for me. I always fell asleep in class and was more efficient studying on my own. Appreciate your inputs though.

Keep tracking of your timing if you buy all 4 Becker parts. The newer material comes out in December, so ask about what's required to upgrade software during your purchase call, i.e. don't open packages/activate codes, etc.

    Couldn't pass again!

I ordered 2012 FAR and the rest were 2013 versions. I ordered FAR because it has been said taking the hardest is the better idea and the 2012 version because all the 2013 wouldn't ship until November. I have all of October to study if I don't work so I didn't want to waste a month. I'm hoping my application will be accepted in time so I can take FAR at the end of November. If not I'll have to wait until January.
