I’m an 04 grad from UMD and haven’t touched an accounting/business book since then. I went straight into industry and am now Controller. My boss wants me to get licensed and eventually take over as CFO in a few years as she is retiring.

I’ve been studying w/CPAExcel for a week now. It’s sh!t load of material but is it enough by itself? Also, I just remember telling myself while in school how tricky some of the homework and test questions were and how difficult the exam would be. I am somewhat worried that the CPAExcel questions are too easy. Thoughts?

I'm 8 years out of college and I used CPAExcel and passed all four on the first try, within 8 months. (After a failed attempt with Becker when I was just out of school). I definitely felt like it covered everything. The only thing I would say is there were a few areas where I needed to supplement CPAExcel by doing some reading of my old Becker books.

In my opinion it's enough. I used it for all three exams that I've passed. The reason I got failing scores is because didn't get through all of the material before exam day and/or I didn't review. In fact, for FAR I think CPAExcel has too many questions that it overwhelms me. I'm going a different route for FAR.

I'm studying for BEC now using CPAExcel but taking short-cuts on the study materials to get to the practice exams faster.
