Recently, I enrolled in a cost accounting course as the topic makes up 15-25% of the BEC section. As I started reading the textbook, the content was similar to a managerial accounting course. Now, I’m aware cost accounting falls under managerial accounting. However, it made me wonder if the cost accounting class is even necessary for the BEC section. I took a intro. to managerial accounting class last year and the topics on the July 2021 CPA-BEC blueprints were covered (e.g. variance analysis, cost measurement, etc). Would the managerial accounting class suffice for the BEC section? Should I continue with cost accounting. The class is during a 6 week summer session, so I would prefer to drop it. I could take the course in the fall while studying for the CPA exam if needed.
Any advice would be appreciated.
