    Everyone,

I wanted to get your thoughts on the correlation between the number of research simulations and passing the exam [AUD,FAR, REG]?

For instance when you get 2 research sims vs getting 1 research sim?

I read that some people are getting 3 research sims. Do you think that when you did well on the MCQs, then you get some slack with the SIMs, thus like 2 or 3 research?

So far my experience as been that, when m MCQs were really hard, I got 1 research question….and then fail.

For instance, the CMA exam when you do good at the MCQ, you can proceed to the simulations…and if you do bad, you don’t even get a chance to work the simulations. [husband is a CMA]…

Just speculating…but it’s good to know and get some real life experiences.

No, none of that is correct. The Sims are completely independent of your success rate on the MCQs. Most people speculate that if you get two (or especially three) research Sims, it's highly likely that one of them is a pretest question.

Aud… Easy on the MCQ, hard on the 5 sims, had 2 research as well. In the end, it will likely be my highest score

FAR… hard on the MCQ, the sims crushed me, had 1 research sim.

    (scores in sig)

However, I don't think the questions and sims are linked in any way.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

In every single exam I've taken, I've only ever had ONE research question on each. Obviously I have a mix of passes and fails!

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

I had two research questions on FAR if I remember correctly, and passed. But, like @wizards said, they're predetermined and have nothing to do with how well you did on the MCQs. Nor are they progressively harder or easier. You can choose which one you want to tackle first, or do some of one, then go back to another, etc.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

1st time taking FAR had 1 research question and failed.

2nd time had 2 and passed.

Don't know if there's any correlation or not, but they say that sims are predetermined beforehand so it just seems like it's luck of the draw.

In my opinion, trying to find ANY correlation between anything on this exam in order to guess your chances of passing is a waste of time….

I really – honestly – felt like I did really bad on REG in comparison to BEC & FAR and I was hoping for a 75, so I was really shocked to see that I did THAT much better! (stronger on both MCQ & SIMS)

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14
