So I’m not posting this to trash talk. I’m posting this because had I known I would have an interaction with the instructor of a review program I would not have spent $1,600 on their program. I would have liked to have known this before.

I failed FAR with a 60. Not proud or saying I did everything right. Clearly I need to find a better study method. I have e-mailed Jeff (from this site) at the end of November to ask for his advice after getting my score at 3 am (I couldn’t sleep) and I haven’t heard back. (If you see this Jeff, I REALLY value your opinion so I’m not sure if you’re busy and I don’t want to call you out but after this conversation with Cindy I’m pretty much spent)

So I saw that Cindy would call and give advice so I figured since I spent the money… why not… I told her my score and she asked if I even studied…. Ouch. That’s my biggest problem here. Yes, I studied. I watched ALL of her videos and took intensive notes. I did multiple choice questions (clearly not the right way). Like I said I never said I did everything prefect… I know I messed up somewhere. For her to add salt to the wound of a 60 fail… I’m not sure why this hurt my feelings so much but it did.. I actually cried… I don’t cry too easily… I did Jeff’s ELL plan by the way. I didn’t do as well as I should as I did slack off at time but I DID study…

Has anyone had an issue such as this? You spend all this money and when it is their one chance to help you out they just make you question whether I or you can do this? Because that’s where I feel I am at. I don’t know if this is for me… Silly right?! What all did you do? I need my support from the people who know the tests best…

    Thanks

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but new englanders can come across as being rude. It's just their way. No offense to anyone to anyone in the north east USA. Yaeger is based in Maryland.

Try not to take it personal. They talk to many, many people. Although, it wouldn't hurt them to be nicer to their customers.

So sorry to hear that. Cindy probably didn't mean to be rude but that's how it came across so you have a right to your feelings. Yeager points out on their website that you 3 hours instructor time vs other courses who don't. They need to remember that when talking to students.

Now is the time to move on and either read the Wiley book or choose another book such as the Gleim. I got more out of reading the book than the lectures and now I'm having to do the same thing with BEC because Cindy's just reads me the BEC book. Search the forums for people who didn't pass FAR and then did to see what they did to pass. If you can't find your answer, maybe post “For those that failed and then passed FAR, what did you do different” or something like that.

It totally sucks to study, fail, and then have an instructor be mean to you but you can pass this exam. Good luck!!

I don't know about FAR, but I used Cindy for BEC and it was good. Well I also had CPAExcel and Wiley.

I know you are upset and frustrated. I would be too if I spend so much money and not get good customer service. Just know that she probably didn't do it on purpose. Even if she did, don't take it personally.

As far as not passing after studying so hard… well, just look at most of us πŸ˜‰ some people's story is way miserable.

Oh Cindy…You just broke my #1 rule for client service: NEVER make a client feel stupid or bothered by their call!!!

I agree that to help you she needed to ask the question, however a more polite way of phrasing that question would have been “Can you tell me more about your study schedule? How were you utilizing the materials?” rather than a brisk “did you even study??”.

Everyone has a choice of how they spend their review materials budget and poor customer service does not help their cause one bit.

Well, when you're in need of morale support, study advice, need to cry or simply vent…. and absolutely any off topic conversation, stick with A71. We're all going through it, study…fail…buy new materials…study…fail again whether it's 60, 49 or 74 its still not a 75. So just stick with us. Cindy probably forgot how rough this test is……(Benefit of the doubt gang). Really though, this is the place where you want to gain the strength and courage to try it one more time. Hang in there….there is cpa at the end of the exam rainbow.

    It begins with a 75

If you study 200 more hours you will pass FAR I promise,

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

@10key – so true! I'm from Massachusetts and work at a college. I've heard of people coming up for a campus visit (from other parts of the country or other countries) and get offended when we don't smile and say hi to everyone we pass. But we're friendly… just don't get in our way! πŸ˜›

    R - *77*(02/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    A - 71('11); *87*(04/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    F - *76*(08/'13)-Becker & NINJA - "server upgrade" survivor
    B - 60('11); *82*(10/'13) -Becker & NINA

    DONE, DONE, AND DONE.

200 hours is about 50-60 hours too long.
