    Everyone:

I am using CPAExcel for my main study material, but am mulling over what supplemental things to use for SIMs. I have Jeff’s 10 Point Combination, but was debating Gleim, since many have stated that they were tough (good practice). Would this be a waste of a purchase, or does someone have a better idea for tough SIM practice (outside of Becker)?

For what it's worth … everyone is different, but I did not study one simulation over the course of my CPA exam studies. Not one. In any section. I thought if I “knew the information”, the SIMS would come naturally, and they did. On my score reports of all 4 of my fails (71, 73, 74, 74), I did “stronger” on all of the SIMS. Just my two cents. It saved me time.

    Licensed Florida CPA:
    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

Interesting. I just had seen so many posts regarding “don't neglect the SIMS, since I did and it cost me”, that I figured I had better get in some rigorous practice for them.

Everyone is different. I can't say that I would “ignore” studying for the SIMS like I did … but I also have about 15 years of experience in all aspects of the accounting cycle, so Journal Entries (which are the majority of the SIMS) have never gotten me worried. Like I said, that's just my personal experience … some may agree, some may not. But it did work for me.

I am studying the SIMS in my text book (Wiley), the SIMS on the WTB (but they seem too easy) and the AICPA released SIMS for practice. I have experience in accounting and journal entries, but not in all the areas tested on the CPA. I figured it couldn't hurt to practice them.
