I'm using the online version (very similar to self study.)

I'm glad I picked this version because 1. I didn't have to pay sales tax (cheaper), 2. I can access the videos & homework from multiple computers – I'm not stuck with whatever one I installed the software on. (This mobility is critical for me.) 3. I need the structure of a class schedule, even if it's flexible enough so that if I must deviate for other obligations I have that option.

That said I wish that the videos were viewable on more mobile devices. The online videos and homework are in flash format or something so I can't use the online content on my mobile phone or tablet. They work fine on any PC/Mac/Laptop.

Access to the online portal will eventually expire but I should be done with the online content by then anyway, and I'll still be able to use the self-study videos on my computer.

Self-study is working well so far for me. I prefer the study environment provided by Becker better than I do the college lecture environment I just departed from. I think learning is more efficient this way as well.

Also if you are concerned about the cost of Becker I would recommend looking on Ebay. It took a few weeks of looking, but I obtained my Becker software (all four parts) for less than $1500 and everything was unused. Sometimes employers provide Becker to students who had already purchased it, at which time the employees sell it on ebay. Just read everything carefully and make sure you know what you are paying for.

    Good luck!

I'll be honest. I've tried self studying stuff such as Lambers and CPAExcel and I'm doing the Becker classes (in person) now. I wish I would have done it years ago. I feel like I'm being held responsible by going to the classes, which I didn't get the feeling with the other study methods. Just my $0.02.

Used only Becker. Let the book burning begin!
