Avoid studying the day before the exam - Page 2

    Hey everyone,

I decided to look into strategies for the day before the exam. I came across reverences to studies that have been done that say studying the day before the exam is actually bad:

“Research shows that studying the day before the exam hurts you, because it crowds your short term memory with last minute info that can interfere with long term memory retrial or bias your decision making skills.”

Before I came across this information I was reading through all the chapters in my FAR book hoping to pick up all of the little subjects I forgot about. Could it be that enjoying my night is a better strategy? Is is possible that I am done studying for FAR as I write this? Or will I score a 74 tomorrow because I was looking for any excuse to stop studying?

Taking the day off before the exam is an interesting concept. What are your thoughts?

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

I'm also curious to hear opinions on the day before. My test is Tuesday, and right now I'm comfortable with most of the topics, but not quite everything. I've been going back and forth between re-reading and reviewing only the couple key topics I think I need the most work on and then taking the rest of the day off…or doing that, and then reviewing everything from my notes for the entire rest of the day. Not sure how I want to play it yet.

I am in the similar situation: my exam is on Thursday and I have just finished another read through of all my notes. Tomorrow, after work, I will review my SIMs printouts. On Tuesday and Wednesday, between work, I will be at the hospital for a family member's medical procedure, so I will only have time for quick reviews.

    Good Luck everyone! πŸ™‚

Just got back from a dinner and movie:) Saw American Hustle. At this point I am not afraid of failing. Pass or Fail I plan to continue the journey, so a CPA license is as good as mine!

    Thanks for everyone's support!

I usually quit studying about 2 nights before the exam. If my exam is scheduled for Monday, I stop studying after my Thursday night study session. However, on the morning of my test, while I eat a nice breakfast, I skim over my notes for a good 30 minutes. I always schedule my exams for first thing in the morning when my brain is fresh and the stress of the day hasn't taken hold.

I am a firm believer in cramming everything you can in the day before and the morning of the exam. I love to take the day before my exam off, and do 20 MCQ sets on every topic in the WTB. I also read through my notes, work all questions answered incorrectly at least 1 time, and review weak areas last. I make sure to stop around 4:30, cook dinner, spend the evening with my family, and go to bed around 9:00. The morning of I study my weak subjects for about 3 hours, and get to the parking lot about 30 minutes before exam time. I then spend about 15 minutes in the car clearing my nerves (WHOOSAAA) with a slight meditation.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!
