As far as I know only experience helps. To get experience try to research every sim you practice even if it isn't a research question. Think of it like a TERRIBLE google search. The good news is, that like google, the answer is probably hidden inside somewhere. Granted, sometimes the guidance is so general it doesn't even help when you do find the answer.

In any case, I have saved my buns on so many sims with the AL. My strategy is just to do the MCQs fast so I have time to research.

    Yes, practice practice practice.

FASB Codification: I'm not sure how much knowledge you have and don't want to insult you if this is not what you are looking for, but just in case:

    https://asc.fasb.org/cs/ContentServer?site=FAF&c=Document_C&sitepfx=FAF&pagename=FAF/Document_C/CodDocumentPage&cid=1175805121281

The site above is a tutorial of navigating the FASB Codification. When I was doing my masters, my Research professor taught us the structure first, then it was a breeze (relatively speaking) to find our topics. Its not overly time consuming to learn the basic structure (see page 13 of the above site), but it is to master it.

Also use that advanced research function. With that and a basic knowledge of the structure, you can get it down.
