Soon2beCPAParticipantI work 7am-4pm, get to the library at around 4:45pm and study until around 8:30 or 9. Once I get home, I take a little time to unwind and if I'm not yet exhausted, I'll try to do some notecards (sometimes with the TV on).
On weekends I do 8 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday.
It's totally doable working full time and studying for the CPA exam – it's just really painful and exhausting…

AnonymousInactiveI work full-time as an accounting manager, have 3 kids under the age of 5, and have a husband that works 2 jobs. Fortunately I have parents that help out a lot. My schedule is M, W, TH I just work, feed/bath/read/homework with kids, and do chores around the house or unwind because I'm usually exhausted by the time the kids are in bed at 8:30 or 9:00. Tuesdays and Fridays I work and then study from 6-9. Saturdays and Sundays I usually study from 10:00-5:00 one or both days depending on whether or not my parents can watch the kids or my husband is off work. I gave myself 8 weeks to study for AUD so I've been doing this schedule for 6 weeks and have 2 weeks left to master the material before I sit. It's only about 13-20 hours a week, but hopefully it will be enough. I lose time each week of closeout so we can get our financials turned in on time, especially at quarter ends, and I lost time during the last two weeks while our auditors were here performing our interim audit workload, but I looked at it as study time since I got to delve more into their side of things. I plan to take the holidays off from studying so I can spend time with my kids and husband and really enjoy the festivities since I've missed all the fall festivals and pumpkin patches and corn mazes. It can be done and it's a PITA, but you just have to want it bad enough.

jloughMemberI work full time and I'm married but no kids. My schedule is to study 2-3 hours a day M-F and about 5-6 hours on Saturday. I try to study during downtime at work, during lunch, and then from about 630 or 7 until 930 or 10 at night. Saturdays, I'll do a few hours in the morning, take a break to run errands/relax/do chores, and then do a few more in the afternoon.
I've planned out what I want to get done each week. If I don't complete my assignments for the week, I study on Sunday. This system has worked for me because I have an incentive to work hard during the week (Sunday Funday!) but if things come up during the week, I still have that day built in to catch up.
I spent/will spend about 10 weeks on FAR, 9 weeks on REG, 6 weeks on AUD, and 5 or 6 on BEC. I also build in a week off in between exams to relax and recharge π
F- 7/13- 84
R- 10/13- 79
A- 11/13- 99
B- 1/14- 86Licensed in PA- 3/20/2014
This exam ALMOST defeated me back in 2006-2008, but I came back and WON!

GutiParticipantCPAhereIam,
I just quit my job after 7 years in private accounting,so I can study for this crazy exam. If you are not a CPA, it is very hard to get a management position,so I just want to make sure that I pass this exam. How many months are you planning to take to pass the CPA exam?
By the way, I admire you all after reading what you have to do to become a CPA. I really hope you all pass this exam soon, so you can have your life back.

jen123ParticipantThank you for posting this. I have been lurking around these boards for a long time. I have started studying and stopped due to pregnancies and exhaustion two times now. Now it is time to buckle down and do this. I work full-time, my husband works full-time and we have 3 young children, 4, 2 & 1. I am completely exhausted, but reading about people in the same situation and what their plan of attack is really helps. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to reading more study plans.

gt5717bParticipantI work full time and have 4 kids (5, 2, 9mo, 9mo). I do 90% of my studying after we get them all to bed, typically 2-3 hours from about 9 to 11 or 12, depending on how tired/bored I get. Frequently, though, I can get some studying or MCQs done at work or I will listen to lectures while driving to supplement.
Another key for me is giving myself a lot of lead time before an exam. I missed passing AUD by 2 points this August, but I only gave myself 4 weeks to study for it after I took my FAR exam in July. That was too short a time period because you have to stick to the schedule and there's very little flexibility. With a 6-8 week timeline, if I put the kids to bed and decide I need a night off to watch TV and have a beer, it's not as detrimental.
