I am just curious whether anyone ever has passed a section without specifically reviewing for the section of the CPA exam and instead relied on what they learned in school or at the job?

I took the CPA exam way back when you had to take all 4 parts at once on paper. It was 5 years out of school and I did not study much. My scores were in the mid 40s. 22 years later with Becker, almost double. I think studying works best.

    Reg - Passed 82 Nov 2012 - Becker
    Aud - Passed 86 May 2013 - Becker
    BEC - Passed 88 Aug 2013 - Becker
    FAR - Passed 88 Nov 2013 - Becker

It's possible but would not recommend unless you took a college course or some equivalent that covers the exam. The CPA exams have so many small nuiances that you wouldn't even think of studying if you didn't have study materials. My friend was in my Auditing and Attestation college class (which covered most of AUD) and he was able to pass AUD without using any supplementary materials. What made this surprising was we finished up that course in December 2012 and he sat for it at the end of April. I'm surprised he remember that much even if it was only a few months.

    Becker
    AUD: 98 (4/13)
    BEC: 84 (5/13)
    FAR: 91 (7/13)
    REG: 91 (8/13)

I suppose it has happened, but I would say that it was because they studied very hard throughout school, so they don't need to study now.

So I guess maybe another way of thinking of it is that we are all catching up on studying, while those other unique individuals are now reaping the benefits of their early studying. 😛

    Passed all sections.

I agree with OtherGuy. I just finished an MPA program in one year, and my goal was to study hard the first time so I didn't need to relearn everything for the cpa. I studied for 13 days, but after 7 I scored very high on a practice test. I don't know if I would have passed with no additional studying, but maybe just a 2 day review would have been enough

    Audit(11/5/13) - 89
    Reg(5/16/14) - 86
    FAR(7/18/14) - 82
    BEC(11/14) - 85

Studied for BEC for 5 days, got a 94 (but cost was my strongest subject, I taught cost exam reviews for 2 years, and I doubled in information systems in my undergrad).

I studied for 7 days for REG and after having taken it on 12/5 (although I haven't gotten my score back yet) I can tell you it is a terrible, terrible strategy and will not work haha. Oh well, at least I'm more prepared to take it in January than I would otherwise have been!

There's a girl at my work who said she didn't study for any of them and passed all on the first try right out of school; not sure how true that is. She likes to talk about herself a lot. i.e. I usually do not remove my headphones when I see her approaching my cubical

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.
