I live in Chicago now, but I plan to move to Toronto. I need to immigrate first which I heard takes over 1 year. But I want to pass my CPA exam first. Then I hope the reciprocity process doesn't require any more exams to be a Chartered Accountant in Canada.

I don't think you'll find anyone on this forum that is from Toronto. I asked the same question just a week or two ago and I'll I got was someone who said they have relatives from Toronto. Also, everyone on this forum is studying for the CPA exam which doesn't transfer over to Canada so easily because they have Chartered Accountants in Canada instead.

How do you like it there? Are you planning on moving to the States? Are you a Chartered Accountant there? I've never been there, but I hear it's a very safe and nice place. Traffic is bad I hear, but who doesn't have bad traffic. At least there's not the crazy gun violence over there like it is in the States.

Yes, Toronto is a cool place to settle down ! I don't plan to do anything like CGA or CA in future & yes I did finished my MBA. CPA is quite valued here. No plans to move to US. I think there are a few from here who are doing CPA but hard to find them as they are very few & so scattered.

Traffic is crazzy now a days, no matter where you go ! Toronto is no exception ! But yes, life is quite disciplined & safe here.

May I know the reason, why you plan to settle down here (only, if you wish to share) ?

It was nice meeting you..!! Take care..

@Toronto – Just Do It Hi there, nice to meet you as well.

Well to be totally honest with you, the main reason why I decided to move to Toronto a few years ago was mainly because of this clip I will post here:

Canada is a different place culturally speaking. I like the small differences in culture, such as less crime and violence (Does Canada's laws even allow Canadians to own machine guns?). My impression is that Canadians are friendlier people and not as guarded or paranoid with other people. I don't like that Chicago has the most amount of gang members over any other American city. I don't like the racial divide in the neighborhoods of Chicago or other big cities in America. If my car brakes down in the wrong neighborhood, I might not make it out alive.

I chose Toronto out of any other place in Canada because it seems similar to Chicago in the size and structure. The weather is probably very close since Toronto is not only about 100 miles more north, and Toronto is also located right near a big lake which is what I love about Chicago. I also hear Toronto's demographics are very diverse with the right balance of demographics that I look for. I would love to live right by the financial district in Toronto in a waterfront condo and just walk to work.

Let me know if my impressions are off any since I've never actually been there before.

    Thanks, Talk to you later.

My email is below if you'd like to communicate that way instead. I might have some questions about Toronto for you in the future if you don't mind, since you're the first person I've ever talked to from Toronto before.

I'm from St. Catharines so “Hello from the other side of the lake”

To become a CA in Canada you do need to sit for one more exam. It's pretty much the differences between the two countries. Mainly Business Law. I looked into it but I'm planning on moving back to the States because of a job opportunity I have there.

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
    AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!
