Another 74 in Audit

Hi, I took the audit exam twice and both times received a 74 score.

Needless to say, discouraged and sick of it.

The two exams were completely different but both times I did better on the sims than

the multiple choice questions. Apparently I’m getting stumped by the ambiguities of the questions.

I feel like I’ve already memorized all of the Becker audit review questions (2012) and need advice that has worked for people who struggle with the multiple choice. Thanks.

I got a 74 twice in a row on FAR and felt the same way. Due to extenuating circumstances I stopped studying and taking the exams until a few years later and I ended up taking the live courses. I know they're expensive, but they are extremely helpful. If nothing else, it's learning by repetition – it was just one more way to hear the material again and have it pounded home. The instructors also had either a good way of explaining a topic or actually had tips and tricks for certain topics.

One thing that really helped me for AUD was the way I organized the material. Lump all the compilation material together, lump all the review material together, lump all the audit material together, etc. It really helped me to keep everything straight in my head.

    Good luck!

    AUD: Attempt 1: 60; Attempt 2: 78
    BEC: Attempt 1: 75 (lost credit); Attempt 2: 80
    FAR: Attempt 1: 74; Attempt 2: 74; Attempt 3: 78
    REG: Attempt 1: 76 (lost credit); Attempt 2: 68; Attempt 3: 80

    Finished 11/01/2013!!!

@CherryPop – Have you considered purchasing the Wiley book? I found reading(although extremely boring) really solidified my knowledge. I just took Audit for my 5th time. They also have detailed MCQ in the book. I bought mine for $42 on Amazon.

If you can, maybe you can add wiley test bank to your studying so you have a new set of questions to challenge and stimulate your mind. At this point, I don't think you can learn anything else from the one's you've “learned” or “memorized”.

    AUD - 90 Pass
REG - 70,61,81 Pass DONE DONE DOOOOONNEEE!!!!!!!!
    BEC - 79 - Pass
    FAR - 70,82 - Pass

Add Wiley Test Bank. Take notes.

Read Becker's book front to back. Take notes on things that don't make sense or don't click immediately.

You may have fallen into a MCQ memorization of the study materials. You need to be able to grasp the concepts without relying on the information appearing on selected choices.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

You have to find what works for you… I have spent over $5,000 on this exam trying to figure out what works for me. With becker you need to almost supplement with Wiley questions because you can memorized the questions pretty easy. I failed Reg 2 times before I passed… I got the Wiley questions… jumped 10 points. You have to know the material… not just the question. You better know all the in's and outs of how inherent risk control risk and detection risk work. Or all the differences of evidence or types of reports. Because exam day the questions wont be the same… Getting wiley showed me the areas I needed to improve on… I was getting 85's on my becker material for REG… took exam… 71. So I got the wiley questions… I was memorizing the Becker questions and not the substance of the material.

Granted I didn't have back to back 74's which has to be annoying but I did raise my AUD score my 3rd time by getting the Ninja notes and rewriting them, word for word, 10 pages per day. I got through them 3 times in 30 days and managed to pass comfortably.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Thanks everyone for your advice and comments.

I will research getting new questions and a new book.

This is all a lot of money!

@CherryPop Think of the return though.

I second what others are saying about the Wiley test bank and it really isn't that much more in the grand scheme of things. The wiley test bank allows you to test your knowledge of all the aspects with new questions that are worded differently. Breaks up the almost memorization of your other questions and keeps your mind fresh.

I used the wiley test bank on REG and have been using it while preparing this last week for AUD, it really keeps you sharp.

If nothing else, definitely try getting a supplementary test bank.

    FAR 02/21/13 - 95
    REG 07/02/13 - 87
    AUD 08/02/13 - 94
    BEC 08/30/13 - 85
    Ethics Exam - 90

    Cherrypop…

I feel your pain, i have received a few 74's in my quest of CPA. You need to change it up a bit, try something different, try new lectures, try new questions.

Trying new lectures was the key for me, i had roger cpa and Yaeger as well. Undertstand Internal control, substantive procedure and all the cycles, inside/out.

Audit is difficult to test, cause most of the questions are subjective and require auditors judgement, and also it has to be the best answer and not the correct answer…you know how this BS goes….

You should be fine, next time around. Now go ahead and pay more fees to NASBA and prometric and make them richer…..:)-

I had a 74 in AUD (along with a 62 & 68 before passing). To me, AUD is far and away the trickiest of the word-play. A single word in the question changes the answer on some questions. On other questions, 3 of the 4 answers sound right, but one is slightly more right than the other two.

Two things I believed help me pass… 1) RTFQ… and answers. All of them!! Too often I found I'd find what I believed was the right answer and stop reading. I needed to read the ENTIRE answer, and ALL four answers. Again, one word changed everything!! 2) Get a new test bank. I had every Wiley question memorized and I could fly through them. I recall doing a practice exam and finishing in barely over an hour. I sprung for ExamMatrix test bank. There were a few of the same questions but most of the questions were asked slightly different that caused me to slow down and READ!

Scoring a 74 twice means you know the material. You are just missing a few things on exam day that's keeping you from passing. You'll get there. You're too close not to!

    FAR - PASSED
    BEC - PASSED
    AUD - PASSED
    REG - 74

Yes, I agree with making sure you read all the ANSWERS too. Know why the wrong answers are wrong, especially since audit is so tricky with wording and little language tweaks. Maybe this means that you only get through 50 questions in a day instead of 75-100, but in the end, your results will likely show the extra effort! Hang in there.

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.
