    Hi Everyone,

I have been trying to take the CPA exam since May of 2013. After failing both audit and reg the summer after I graduated, I gave up and told myself I needed a “mental break.” I started working in September and started my CPA journey again in May 2014. I took Audit and failed with a 73. I retook Audit in July and just found out I failed with a 73. I was too ashamed to tell my coworkers and now I am starting to feel discouraged with 4 exams left to take and it seems I still haven’t found a study schedule that is effective. Does anyone have any advice. As of right now, here is my plan:

    BEC: 8/28/14

    REG: 73, Redo 10/11/14

    FAR: 11/26/14

    AUD: 71, 73, 73, Redo 1/05/15

To make matters worse, I live in another state from my parents…they aren’t even calling me anymore because they are so disappointed. Exact quote, “we are in disbelief that you have not been able to pass a single exam. Are you even trying?”

I honestly haven’t been able to sleep, eat or concentrate (which I know is only making matters worse…but I can’t get out of this slump). I am so upset with myself for not being able to pass an exam. All of my other CPA candidate friends passed on their first try and are about to become CPAs. I CANT EVEN PASS ONE EXAM.

I have been using Becker’s self-study materials. What I did for my last exam was:

    1. watch the video lecture

    2. read the chapter

    3. do the MCQ until I knew the answer to each question

    4. Try to get 2 sections done a week (repeating above)

I could really use some advice and encouragement so that I can achieve my goal of becoming a CPA. 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

    B: 8/28/14
    A:71,73,73 RETAKE 1/5/15
    R: 10/11/14
    F: 11/26/14

NINJA system all the way! It is the only thing that helped me. Becker's strategy did not work. Please read Jeff's study planner and follow it to the T on your next exam. Trust me, I felt just as miserable when I started this journey years ago and only managed to pass one exam after 2 tries with a mere 75! I was miserable studying and worked so hard to barely make it!!

After that, my study strategy continued to be lacking and I did not manage to pass a single one again, not until I remembered the NINJA website and implemented Jeff's method last year when I started studying again (I took a break until I got out of the big 4).

You don't need to get the NINJA audio and notes, but it helps. Trust me, just following the study strategy works! The times I have failed is because I have not given myself enough time to review and really nail the concepts. If you give yourself enough review time and follow the NINJA method, you will pass!

Also, don't worry about your parents. They will never understand. This exam does not measure your intelligence. It is just a test that unfortunately we need to pass to make something (more) of ourselves in this industry. You can and will do it!

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂

you're not stupid. I don't know you but I believe in you. I know, that you know, deep inside, that you believe you can pass too. you just need a bit of reassurance. It's not like a 47…so cheer up.

    BEC: 72,72, 77
    AUD: 47, 63

Study for 200 hours for each part, you'll pass. 2 hours a night for 3 months.

I wonder the same thing. Down to my last section: FAR.

Maybe I am too stupid. This material is insane. If I don't pass, I lose a section. I'm ready to throw up.

    AUD-PASS
    BEC-PASS
    REG-PASS
    FAR-PASS

Have your parents passed the CPA exam?

No -> Tell them to go and fly the kite.

Yes -> Tell them to go and fly the CPA kite 🙂

Unless they are paying for your test prep materials and covering your exam fees, you are not obligated to discuss your progress.

    FAR
    AUD 02/10/14 passed
    BEC
    REG

@swimgirl – Have you considered spacing out your exams a little more? I'm doing 1 exam/qtr., and there is a MUCH-NEEDED break in between each one. You'll get to live life a little bit and feel refreshed and ready to start studying for your next section.

Unless, there's some other reason (work requirement?), there's no reason to try to pass these all in 6 mths.

    AUD: 84 - Oct. 2013
    BEC: 83 - Feb. 2014
    REG: 91 - May, 2014
    FAR: 68, 96 - Oct. 2014...DONE

    CPAExcel, Ninja Audio (all sections)
