Already confused with REG lectures- should I rewatch?

    Hello everyone,

My CPA experience has not started off well, with a 68 and then 69 on AUD, so I am going into studying for REG with caution. My exam is scheduled for Oct 9, so I do have some time before my exam.

I find I am watching the lectures (Becker) and am completely lost. Did anyone else feel that way when watching? I am trying the NINJA study approach, so maybe it is common to not really understand the material until you start doing the MCQ’s.

I just wanted some feedback from people who have actually passed an exam. I don’t want to waste any time doing something that is counterproductive. Do you think I should go back and re-watch the lectures since I feel lost? Should I try an entirely different study approach? Just read the book, etc.?

Thank you to any of you who respond!

AUD- 68, 69 (at this rate it's going to take me 8 times to pass...)

REG was like that for me. After I watched the videos, I tried to move on, but I ended up watching them again.

I didn't take notes the first time through, but the second time through, I actually read the chapters twice and with notes.

It wasn until I did the MCQ's that things started clicking. I basically did one problem at a time in the Wiley book. Do one problem, then look at the answer on why they're wrong or right. It's a long process, so do every four questions. Or just do 10 at a time. It's very scary when you see over 100 questions for just one section.

When my test was nearing, I wrote down the name of each section and just did 20 random questions from each section. And wrote down the score for each section as I did each part. I did this part with the Wiley Test Bank on my laptop.

I would recommend watching the lectures, reading them by topic, and answering the mcs… It is slow and tedious but I guarantee you, it will start to make sense second time around. It becomes easier as you start repeating and clicking here and there with things you might have missed the first time you watch the lectures, read and answered the mc…

Stay at it… It will click to you.

    Good luck.

Here's how I'm approaching REG. It's definitely working for me, but I'm behind schedule and am not sure that I'll have time to finish.

    Watch all lectures

Read section and do related MCQ's in book(1 section at a time)

Watch lecture on section again, then do related MCQ's in Wiley test bank (1 section at a time)

I always rewatch lectures because they make more sense the 2nd time through after you've worked some MCQ's, plus you will pick up some info that you missed the 1st time.

I have an intensive 5 day Final Review planned in which I will rewatch videos of sections I'm not scoring well on in the Wiley test bank and redo questions I missed in the Wiley test bank the first time through.

This approach has worked well for me in other sections, so I'm hoping it holds true for REG. Good luck!

I'm studying for REG right now too, I'm actually taking it on the 30th!

I found for REG that I needed to watch the lectures and actually write down what I was learning, repetition is honestly the key, especially for the Tax stuff. I'm a visual person so I would literally draw a line for individual tax AGI, then write above it all the adjustments “for AGI” and below it all the deductions “from AGI.” Visually seeing it can sometimes help make it click too!

I hope this helps you and also gives you some confidence to know that you can learn everything. Good luck!!
