I know how crazy this sounds, but I did not realize I should use the AL function for SIMS other than the research questions. I took audit and never used them and it sounds like they can really help on more than just research which may have meant the difference between passing and failing for me. I am fixing to take FAR and just wanted to get some tips on the types of questions I could use the AL function on for the SIMS.

Really just anything you're unsure about, you can look it up to check. But I didn't use the AL on my FAR exam, and it turned out fine.

I think it can be helpful. I was looking through the AL for one of my questions and the section I was in had a bunch of illustrative examples, so theoretically if you got a long quantitative sim you could find exactly what you're looking for for a bunch of easy points.

On the other hand, it can take a long time to do. Don't treat this like an open book exam. You don't have a lot of time and freedom to look up every sim to double check your answers, and there's a big risk that the AL won't contain enough to guide you through a problem. Answer everything you can first, even things you are unsure about, just keep those uncertainties in your mind for later. If you have a good deal of extra time, it can't hurt to check. I got 2 parts of a big question right specifically because I found what I was looking for in the AL, but I waited till I finished every other sim, and it probably took about 10 minutes to find because it was such a specific issue in a large topic. If I was running low on time, that 10 minutes could've potentially hurt me far more than getting 2 parts right helped me.

Yeah I can definitely see where it could hurt if I tried to use it for every question. Thanks for the advice! I just wanted to kick myself when I read where it really helped people and I didn't even take advantage.
