Advice on retake

So my wife recently failed a part of cpa exam. I happened to pass but she has to retake audit. I was wondering if on a retake if it is important to add some new materials. My wife used gleim and performed comparable on m/c but weaker on sims. Would it help to get another source of questions so she doesn’t see all the same ones? Wiley test bank seems good. For those that have taken a retake, did some new questions injected into the study plan help, or is standing pat with the same course preferable for some?

I would imagine a different set of questions would make a retake less stale to study for.

    Thanks for any help!

I added the Wiley Test Bank and some Ninja materials and I believe it did help make the second round of studying less repetitive. If I remember correctly, your wife got a 71? She may not need to add much considering it's obvious she knows the concepts. the WTB has 40 SIMS for AUD, which helped me in my studies as SIMS was my weakest area the first time around.

She did get a 71. 40 new sims sound great. I will talk to her about that option and also tell her how great this site is for advice/comraderie amongst all us cpa candidates!

Btw, she is a cpa mommy of a 4 month old! Mommy of 3 sounds pretty cool!

This site sells the WTB. I only bought it for AUD, but I will be buying it for REG and FAR as well. You may want to consider the package deal for all 4 parts. It could help you both while you are studying. I hope you guys have family around. I don't envy trying to take the exam with a 4 month old, especially if he/she isn't sleeping through the night. Mine are 1, 2, and 4 but my husband and parents are awesome helping with the girls. They are making it possible for me to do this. I really hope your wife joins this site. It has really helped me to see so many others going through the same stuff I am. Good luck to you both!!

Yeah, studying with a newborn is tough, and I am starting a job in January so it could get tougher. My wife is an incredible mommy, and the toughest part of studying is it takes away some time with the little boy.

I am gearing up for Reg in a few weeks and my wife will be retaking audit. This may work out well as I can give some pointers if I'm a step ahead but she can have some time by herself to get comfortable with the material. I am very impressed with the Ninjas on this site and everything we all overcome in our journey to become cpa's. I've realized that the hardest part of the cpa exam may just be the obligations/distractions etc. that keep our attention constantly divided.

But one thing is clear; we are all strong, and with support and encouragement, we are all capable of passing these tests! Thank you so much cpa mommy for your advice, as I am excited to resume my studies as my vacation is coming to a close!

Did your wife actually ask you what she should do next and how she should move forward. If not, please don't offer her any helpful suggestions from here. If she did ask, then yes you are fabulous for doing a recon mission on her behalf.

But seriously after all the issues she had at the test center on test day on TOP of being the mom of a newborn, I seriously think her 71 translates to a 99 in comparison to what most candidates go through.

I'd say she's already doing everything right, seriously. I hope she is actually PROUD of that 71, given the mountain she had to climb to get it!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

Mia, she asked me to do anything necessary to help her since she needs every ounce of time on vacation to relax. I've been relaying everything I've learned.

Also, I am soooo proud of her 71 given the tough circumstances. I know the cpa exam solely tests ones ability to pass a test, and she certainly has that ability. She is the most incredible person I have ever met and I would trade 8 passed sections for myself for just 1 section for her.
