Advice on my study plan

I graduated last May with my accounting degree. After initially pursuing another career path I decided that I want to pursue my CPA.

I will start studying on April 1st full time (mon-fri) for around 8-10 hours a day. I decided to take Roger CPA and use the Ninja notes/audio. My goal is to finish by the end of August right before the hiring public firms hiring season to better separate myself from the others applicants.

I did fairly well in my accounting courses (3.2 gpa) so I feel I have a good shot at passing them all on my first try. I am open to just hear what people think and if anyone has any pointers on being able to digest information for long periods of time (8-10 hours daily).

Sounds like a solid plan. Why wait until 4/1 to begin studying?

Check out the Ninja Study planner to layout a schedule.

Plan the order of tests. If I had it to do again I would have tested in this order: FAR, AUD, BEC, REG

And if you are going to study full time, check out the Pomodoro technique. You can search “pomodoro” in this forum and read a lot about it.

Here is my $.02 from a previous thread:

“The Pomodoro technique is based on chunks of 25 minutes (=1 Pomodoro), which you devote to a specific task. Once you complete the 25 min. Pomodoro, you take a small 5-minute break. And when you complete four Pomodoros in a row, you take a longer break.”

I use the Pomodairo app to keep me on track and help me break down the beast into 25 min. manageable goals.

    https://pomodairo.en.softonic.com/

I take a topic and estimate how long it will take me to cover. (Inventory review 1.5 hours lecture/notes = 3 pomodoros).

If I finish the topic with time to spare in that Pomodoro, then I review until the timer sounds.

Then the second part of the same topic Inventory questions 1 hour (2 pomodoros).

If it takes me longer to than the estimated Pomodoros to get through a task, the app allows you to add as you go.

I add these tasks into the app and start the timer.

Force myself to take a 5 minute break when required.

During the breaks I may check the forum or grab a bite to eat. Maybe do jumping jacks or answer texts.

The key is to focus hard core for those 25 min. with NO distractions.

Then use the timed breaks to do all the little stuff that gets you off track. But when the allotted time is up, and the alarm sounds, get back to the task at hand.

This allows you to focus and retain info. But also gives your brain a break.

    I HIGHLY recommend it.

Thank you! The Pomodairo technique seems like a great way to manage my time. The study planner is a killer idea, I've been looking for something that. How long of a break did you take after your 4th pomodario? (long break)

I am holding off my studying till April because I need to have my finances in order. I am also using this time to do excel training (one of me weakness that I feel is a necessity for accounting).

You definately have a good shot of passing them on the first try but that has nothing to do with your success in college. I had a 3.8 GPA in my accounting classes but still managed to need to retake a few exams because my study time was exceptionally limited. If you have the good fortune of being able to study full time, and you use that time wisely you'll be a CPA by fall!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.
