I just found out this morning I failed REG and lost my FAR credit. I’m seriously considering hanging up the towel on this. I’ve been on this horrible journey for 2.5yrs now and I just don’t feel like I will ever be able to pass every section within 18mths. I’m at a loss for words, I have no idea what to do, think, feel aside from being devastated. I miss my kids, my husband, my life. And I don’t know if I feel like this is worth it anymore. Sorry this is a rambling mess.

I am so sorry – it has got to feel devastating. I suggest a small break to let yourself refresh (if you aren't in danger of losing anything else in the next window). Two and a half years is a long time and takes its toll on families and relationships.

I don't want to make any suggestions on studying since at this point it could all sound like platitudes anyway. You know what works best for you since you have successfully passed 3 tests in the past. I think you just need some refreshing.

    REG - Nov 4, 2013: 88
    FAR - Feb 27, 2014: 86
    AUD - April 5, 2014: 91
    BEC - May 6, 2014: 83

I feel you megasaurus. I just found out I failed REG miserably. After 2 months of studying I got a …. 49!!! I have not covered any of the tax topics and went to the exam grossly underprepared. I vow to fight till the end of this and I am asking you to continue your fight. I too have kids and a wife at home. I miss them and they miss me but I will not give up. 49? Screw it. I will fight this and I will prevail. I have never been in a situation like yours before but I will still continue fighting if I were you. I understand the challenges, that it seems you have no life at all but once you get there imagine how proud you are going to be of yourself and your family will be proud for you. If you give up then why the spent 2.5 years? No, we fight on.

    FAR - 89
    AUD - 84
    BEC - 84
    REG - 49, 86
    ETHICS - 96........ DONE!!!

@ megasaurus, I can understand how you might feel like giving up, but think of it this way you passed FAR once so you CAN and WILL pass again. Don't beat yourself up and think of the lost credit nor about the 2.5 years you've invested.

You can beat the CPA!! Besides if you give up now then all they hard work you've put in so far will ALL best lost. Give yourself a couple of days to regroup and digest the news of failing… spend time with family. Don't give up now, you're almost there.

    BEC - 66, 77 (3/14* expired), 82 (11/15)
    AUD - 58 (4/14), 76 (8/14)
    REG - 75 (6/14)
    FAR - 72 (11/14), 67 (1/15), 68 (5/15), 68 (7/15), 80!!!! (11/15)

If you search the forum, you will find encouragement and lots of stories similar to yours. Take a step back and reset. What was your study plan for REG?

    AUD - 11/24/2013 74, 2/9/2014 92

    Thank you everyone.

I used Becker, I have for all of my exams. I supplemented with ninja audio and notes. I watched all of the lectures first, then I hammered out all of the MCQ, rewrote my notes, reviewed MCQ and sims leading up to the exam. The first time I took REG I didn't feel like I had enough time to review so I set aside more time for this attempt. I only increased my score by 2 points. Not that it matters, I'm still 75 pts away with the 2 hardest exams to go.

Also, since my Becker is about to expire I'm wondering if I should try another review course? I know Becker will extend it for REG, but I'm worried I may have memorized the questions.

    Hi Megasaurus!

I'm not sure if you still remember me. We were in the same forum (I need to murder REG) 3 months ago with QuesoDip. I can feel your pain. I felt soooo lost when i failed REG the second time and my score was worse than the first. For about two weeks I didn't know what to do and I didn't know how to pull myself together. Good thing I came across the forum which you started. In a way it helped me feel a little better knowing that there are many aspiring CPAs who are experiencing the same thing but they remain fighting. I suggest that you read Jeff's personal experience too. His journey to becoming a CPA is inspiring. With God's blessing, I successfully passed REG. I'm finally done with all four.

    > Just remember why you decided to take the exam in the first place. Refocus on that goal again.

    > Believe that you are meant to become a cpa, otherwise, you wouldn't have passed the first 3 subjects you took.

    > With regard to reviewing, do what works best for you. I tried to follow Jeff's suggestion on how to review but I didn't have the time to do everything especially the rewriting part. Instead I just did what works best for me and followed some of the tips I got from the forums. I followed QuesoDip's suggestion on focusing on the topics I am weak at and reviewed the 1040 project that he shared to me. I also followed Jeff's suggestion on how to pass the CPA in 20 days. I spent less time this time reading the theories since I still remember most of them from past reviews and spent a lot of time on MCQs, as in tons of time. I specially did a lot of MCQs on topics I'm weak at. And if the review materials are not enough, I search the internet to get a better understanding of the topic.

    > On family time, see if your husband or even your children can be your review partner(s). They can take your notes and quiz you on your notes or they can read to you the MCQs and you answer orally or in writing. It will be hitting 2 birds with one stone – you can get to review while spending time with them.

    > Don't give up. What is another half year compared to a lifetime of regret for giving up?

    > Lastly, give your best and pray. I leave you with this verse from Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I wish you all the best. Let us know of the result.
