Time budget for next CPA exam

    I noticed something a little curious about the next CPA exam. For AUD, FAR and REG, the MCQs and the TBSs are both weighted 50% for the final score. Therefore, it would make sense to spend 2 hours on the MCQs, and 2 hours on the TBSs, right? However, the 15-minute break is placed after the third testlet, and is intended to occur at the halfway mark, according to the AICPA.

    Here is the structure:
    * Testlet #1, x MCQs
    * Testlet #2, x MCQs
    * Testlet #3, 2 TBSs
    —-15-minute break intended to occur at approximately the halfway mark—-
    * Testlet #4, 3 TBSs
    * Testlet #5, 3 TBSs

    What is your planned time budget for each testlet?

    @HEPUNISH there is no way to prepare for written communications since (at least in Becker) it would say you got a 100% every time as long as you wrote something down. The best thing probably is to just read a bunch of examples of written communications and on exam day, remember to have an introduction paragraph, body, and conclusion paragraph. Make sure you answer the questions – whether it's right or wrong, you will get points for directly answering the question.

    Staying on topic and answering the question asked, now that is good advice!

    Let's try this again…Any thoughts on spending LESS than 2 hours on the multiple choice questions, even though they are supposed to be worth just as much as the TBS for the final score?

    Depending on the exam, I'd honestly recommend 1 – 1.5 hours for MCQ. There are less of those and more of the TBS with these new exams. For example, AUD MCQ probably require no more than a minute to answer anyway, so for those 72 questions, taking around 70-75 minutes seems doable. For an exam like FAR, at least 90 minutes seems realistic since some questions will likely involve thorough computations. I don't know if I'd take a whole 2 hours to answer 62-76 MCQ, though. But again, it could depend on the exam.
