Worth $35 to move an exam 5 hours?

I have FAR scheduled for 8/29 at 8 AM, the only time that was left during that week. I was curiously looking on the Prometric site this morning and saw that the 12:30 slot was open. I have taken AUD twice at 8 AM and haven’t fared well. The test site is only 10 minutes from my house, so travel isn’t a big deal, but I am really not a morning person. I have already pushed this back once and my wife wouldn’t be thrilled if I spent another $35 on this.

Has anyone ever asked Prometric to waive a fee? I have already given them $35 to move this test to the day, all I am really doing is changing the time?

Not worth it if it's on the same day. Just chug down a 5 hour energy drink and get to it 🙂

I think DEFINATELY worth it. If getting all psyched out thinking you've failed twice at that hour is going to shake your confidence don't repeat history.

Yes, $35 seems like a LOT of money for a tiny advantage. Think of that $35 in other terms, you'd pay more than that to take your wife to a 2 hour movie (which has a short term benefit to your relationship but not long term like passing the CPA), much more than that to spend an hour at ANY restaurant, no significant benefit. More than that for a pair of shoes, etc.

Sometimes you have to do what feels better overall, instead of what is more logical.

I would do it. I liked the noon slots much better…get up by 6 or 7 … study for 4 hours before the exam.

Mla1169 what movie theater are you going to? Lol I don't think it costs $35 to see a movie with somebody. We aren't quite there yet with inflation!

@jp – C'mon man. Nut up. This isnt college anymore where you can sleep in until 10am. Wake up, throw back a cup of coffee, and go get the job done.

@Exhausted – Here in So Cal, movie prices are outrageous. IMax is seriously close to $20 per ticket.

    $10.75 per ticket (adult, regular movie not 3-D, regular showtime ) x 2 = 21.75 for tickets.

    $4.75 large soda x 2 =9.50

$6.75 for one large popcorn to share

$43.25 for two adults to go to a movie north of Boston.

Unless you go to a matinee and bring your own stuff, in which case you are sitll going to spend about $20.

I wish it were funny, and I wish that I had your movie theater prices.

@mla – Despite your fuzzy math, I still agree that movie prices are crazy high. 🙂

When I was living in Manhattan it was around 15 per ticket…. and IMAX was close to $20 a ticket… ridic!

@jpyoung10…. This is just in my opinion but… I took a noon exam once and will never ever F****** EVER do it again… I'm way too much a spaz of a person and had a good 4-5 hours to completely freak myself out before the exam… But that's just me.. you might not be a spaz 🙂

Mla1169, you didn't say anything about buying food and drinks. Come on, we are accountants! We're not going to spend $10 on a soda lol. If you're an accountant by heart, you cringe every time you swipe your card haha

It depends on how big a deal this is to you. On the surface, spending more money just to move the exam 5 hours doesn't sound like a great idea. However, a big part of this exam is your mental attitude. If taking it in the afternoon will give you an edge, go for it. If you are really bothered by spending more money, think of something that you can give up for a while to make up for it e.g. trips to Starbucks, snack or drink during your breaks, take lunch instead of buy, etc.

    Good luck.

    “despite your fuzzy math” lmao

Movies are expensive…..but I'm going to tell you how a frugal new CPA does it.

    1. I still have my student ID from college, only for getting the student priced tix. (2 @ 8.00 = $16.00)

    2. Soda or water from the house, snuck in my wife's purse ($.25 x 2 = $.50)

    3. Raisonets, sour patch kids, etc (also from my wife's neverending purse) (2 x $1.00 = $2.00)

    4. Popcorn….the only thing I usually buy from the theatre but it is a MUST ($5.00)

    Total = Under $25.00

Now back to the original post….I changed my exam time just about every time. I, on the other hand, liked the 8:00 test times. I sucked down a 5-hour energy and tested well. I figured if you aren't prepared by the morning (afterweeks/months of studying), then you shouldn't be testing anyway. What will another 4 hours do for you? Probably just up your anxiety and stress level even more. It is also nice to be done with the exam by by noon.

Mini, you caught me trying to sneak on an extra 5.50…still over $35

And the LAST time I saw a movie in a theater was Shrek 2.

The concept remains, $35 is easy to part with for things that many people take for granted.

Which is more valuable to you–$35 or 5 hours?
