What a great tip about the milkshake. I’m planning this:

    Testlet 1 – 30 mins

    Testlet 2 – 40 mins

    Testlet 3 – 40 mins

break – 10 mins (bathroom, and now milkshake)

    Sims – 2 hours

In your experience, is that reasonable? Unrealistic?

Worst moment: Far exam. Take 3.

Somewhere during the third testlet, I lost it. These are some of the random thoughts I remember:

“OMG. Is this getting any harder? Why couldn't I get any of the answers to the first question in testlet 2? It wasn't hard. OK. Forget it. MOVE ON! Why is the monitor standing behind me for so long? This testlet is so hard and I don't know anything. Why can't I remember the basics? The FIRST testlet was difficult. I'm failing. UGH! Just leave. NO! You're running out of time. You got this. Open the next testlet, the sims. DO IT! You can't go back. Just focus on the sims. I want my mommy.”

Tears started to swell in my eyes and I hesitated as to if I were truly ready to exit this testlet and proceed to the next. AM I SURE? NOOOOOO! But I proceeded.

    Failed with a 67.

Good luck next week, Peanut. You can do it. Don't walk out again!

Best advice to anyone who blanks/freaks out. Get up, take a break and pull it together. Go back in and give it your best shot.

Good luck, peanut! You can do this!

I drew a blank at least once during every exam, which would cause me to panic. When that happened, I'd just close my eyes, breath, and tell myself that I could get through this. Eventually, my brain would fire up again.

Thank you guys so much for sharing these stories. If I'm expecting a “blank out” moment going in, maybe I won't freak out as much when it happens.

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

Worst moment. After the test I wanted to write a comment in the comment section. I tried to spell loudly and literally couldn't remember how to spell it. I was typing laudly, no thats not right, laodly, no thats not it either. It took me a good minute to get my brain to stop thinking about FAR material and spell a simple word.

I went blank on an “easy” question during the BEC exam…I just blanked on a formula and if I knew the formula, it was an easy, straight forward question. I must have spent 10 minutes trying to remember the formula, then another 5 minutes beating myself up for forgetting it lol

    I ended up with a 76 🙂

I was so stressed last week about AUD that the question could have been “what color is the nail polish you are wearing right now” and I would have messed it up and said 2.

    AUD -49, 71, 84

lol at the OP. Thank god that hasnt happened to me during an exam as yet but it certainlt has happened during studying. Stuff that I know inside out I just couldnt remember at times.

@katiekanton…. your time plan above is exactly what i did for AUD. For BEc I thought I could mimic that but instead worked straight through… I hope I will be able to take a break during FAR. God knows that 10 minute break calmed me for the SIMS

I don't remember my mind going blank, but I do remember during FAR (which was my first exam) thinking “What the hell is this crap? Why am I putting myself through this?” It was complete torture. I left thinking I bombed.

My comment isn't so much a blank, but it does affect my test taking. I swear I have ADD or something. Every time I take an exam usually somewhere during the 2nd or 3rd testlet I start daydreaming about shopping. I have to coax myself back to focusing on the exam. I'm such a daydreamer!!

    BEC: 75 11/8/10
    AUD: 89 2/22/11
    FAR: 78 5/17/11
    REG: 72, 83 10/17/11
    DONE!!!!

This isn't really a “mind going blank” scenerio – more like a mental breakdown where I was convinced that I was a total moron and was not meant to be a CPA.

During my last attempt at REG, I kept getting these super difficult questions on the 2nd and 3rd testlets. The thing that made me upset was that they didn't seem difficult. They seemed easy, but then they all had this awul twist at the end that I had to guess on. Like I'd know the first part, but then they'd throw in something random that confused me. I felt like an idiot! I was sure that I got all of them wrong. And I swear, 70% of my test was on ONE topic. I knew the topic, but not enough for it to take up so much of my exam!

I spent extra time on the sims – spent a lot of time on the research tabs. I answered questions that I really had no idea what the real answer was except for what I found in the research.

Anyways, this was my third attempt at REG, and if I hadn't passed I probably would have lost FAR. I was desperate. When I left, I sat in my car and cried for a good 5 minutes before I drove home.

Passed with an 85. Stronger on sims, comparable on MCQs. I'm still pretty sure that they mixed my score up with someone elses. Just goes to show, you never know until you really know. I was so sure that I failed that I bought the Wiley test bank and reapplied to the CBA for another NTS. :0) Just got my $50 application fee refunded yesterday.. woot!

    FAR: 71, 77
    BEC: 70, 82
    AUD: 62, 78
    REG: 71, 68, 85

    @Whenindoubt,

I have the same problem. I cannot focus on anything for more than 5 minutes. I take a break after each testlet and go get a drink, eat a snack, or just walk around the building. If I don't I'll be spending more time thinking about what's for dinner or what else I want to do that night than the actual questions. I definitely feel the exam is much more about perseverance than knowing every little thing!
