AnonymousInactiveI know this is very subjective, just wanted to hear your thoughts as to why. List the other exams if you wish. So far for me REG has been most challenging.

Study MonkMemberI am hoping people are going to tell us how much harder FAR is compared with REG. I am starting to study for REG in a week, so it would be nice to know that I already beat a more intense exam.
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

MrsOP75MemberIn my opinion, REG is a much more difficult exam. However, FAR is difficult to study/prepare for due to the amount of material that you have to get through to prepare for the exam.
I was stressed about remembering everything for FAR, but once I actually took the exam it wasn't as difficult as I expected. The MCQs and SIMs were very manageable – not sure if I got lucky or if I was well prepared. The fact that my work experience is in Accounting probably didn't hurt me either.
REG was a completely different experience for me. The MCQs were okay but the SIMs were ridiculously difficult/confusing/vague. I think the material itself (with all the exceptions/exclusions) is really difficult to remember unless you are in the field already. Corporate Tax is a pain!
As you can see from my scores, I didn't pass REG the first time I took it and will be retaking it on 2/27. Good luck @backusjo and everyone taking exams this window!
AUD - 84 - 7/19/2013
BEC - 75 - 8/29/2013
FAR - 81 - 10/28/2013
REG - 72 - Retake - 85! I'm DONE!!!Ethics - 96%

AnonymousInactive100% agreement with MrsOP75. FAR was the worst to study – the sheer volume of material is completely overwhelming – but I thought the REG exam was much harder – and I took REG after working two seasons in tax. Good luck. The journey is horrible but the end result is so great. Worth every frost bitten mind numbing minute I spent in the library. 🙂

Study MonkMemberThis thread is depressing. I start REG in a week and have no tax experience. I was hoping the Beast(FAR) was slayed; only to find out it has an evil sister 😮

I have spent a lot of time on all the distribution types for a corp: liquidating, partial liquid, complete, redemptions…what a darn nightmare. Then there is all the basis stuff. I take the exam wednesday.
