    Hi everyone,

I am sitting for REG July 1st, so this upcoming Friday. I have hit a wall about 2 weeks ago, to the point that it is really hard to focus, memorize, or read anything. I am a little concerned because I know I’m not very well prepared. I definitely am scoring way too low on MCQ. But my brain is saturated, I can tell because I make the stupidest mistakes (like not reading the entire question).

Any suggestions? what do you guys do when you hit a wall and studying becomes counterproductive?

It depends on why you are not capable of focusing. I have this happen sometimes, but it has to do with the fact I have not gotten enough rest. I have never been one to sleep a lot so it does not really effect me all that much. However, I do hit a point a time or two a month where I need a good night of 9-10 hours of sleep. It really makes a difference on how well you can focus and for how long.

If it is a motivation thing I would read some inspirational quotes on the internet or look yourself in the mirror and say you are not going to let that stuff conquer you. I always tell myself “I WILL NOT BE DENIED”. I approach studying like I would approach playing some one in one on one basketball. I am extremely competitive and I have always hating losing with a passion. Each day I map out what I need to get done and I attempt to do just a little more than I had originally planned. When I do that I win that day. Also, I do not sell myself short. I try to really push what I can do, but try to do it with effectiveness and efficiency. I keep a going tally of myself against the material on days I don't get all I had planned done vs. days that I do. I see it is yet another way of challenging myself.

Another thing I do is I think about the misery of having to study it again. That also provides a tremendous amount of incentive.

Those are some of the things that I do to maximize my motivation. Hope it helps as odd as those things are.

This is exactly how I was feeling today, completely hit a wall and I sit July 1st. I got through all the material and now am second guessing how well I know everything. I took an hour break and watched funny videos on youtube…sounds weird but laughing made me felt 100x better when I came back to studying.

Instead of focusing on every little detail I am doing supplementary questions to refresh everything and get an overview. After the supplementary questions I am reviewing note cards for each section. Go back to the basics. Try reviewing something that boosts your confidence and gets you engaged again.

It is really frustrating but I just keep reminding myself its only a few more days of focus and every problem I go over improves my chances of getting that 75. Not sure if that helps but that's what I'm trying.

    A - 93 (7/1/11)

I hit a big wall about 2 weeks before my FAR exam, What I did was to keep studying and try to relax, I was a nervous wreck and I didn't think I knew anything. The worst part is that I took the CPA4free review website and kept getting a 55 on the questions (BTW, they are insanely harder) and then I went through the questions again and accessed my weaknesses (have you done that? accurate documentation is key). The problem your having is your overwhelmed with the material, which means you'll get one wrong, two wrong and then it continues no matter the difficulty of the question like a sprial. You have two options, one night just put the book down and rest or two spend an hour in an area that you know is one of your strengths to build confidence (don't do this all the time, then your just spinning your wheels)

Your vs. you're. Drives me nuts when people get these mixed up.
