Video Lectures – How to learn them

Okay I’m about half way thru Yaeger’s BEC lecture. How am I suppose to study them. Cindy literally just reads from the books and gives crappy examples here and there and does some MCQs here and there.

I take down a few notes but its not like i’m actually learning anything or retaining any information. Sometimes I get bored I want to start looking at animated porn or start daydreaming. Its like a flashback from my college days when I just pretended like I was paying attention to the lecture.

Anyway, I don’t know if its even worth watching the other half cus I prolly won’t be able to focus much. So I’m asking is this normal. Do you guys completely focus on the lecture and write down notes or what.

God bless you!! I just finished the BEC lectures yesterday and yes, they were the worst set of lectures from Yaeger. I thought it was just me as a lot of people seem to be crazy about Cindy. She was great for FAR. Gary was excellent with AUD. Phil wasn't too bad with REG. A bit boring, but he did a pretty good job explaining some of the topics. But BEC is by far, the worst Yaeger Homestudy course I've watched. I like Cindy as a person, but her BEC lectures were poorly done.

I've said this before in another thread, so I'll say it here as well. With BEC, I highly recommend that people just buy the Wiley book and read it on your own. Should save you $400+.

man, i honestly half-butt this last video on capital budgeting.

here's the thing tho.. i read, on this site actually, someone thought the yaeger bec was the best outta all the reviews so i was pretty stoked on going thru this. but hell nah.. its either some bs promoting going on or something. i gotta get thru the remaining lectures before next week and then do hardcore mcqs.

anyway, is it true that mod44b, 46,47, and 48 are only going to be like 14% of the exam? that's so lame.. too much too cover.

i think i could get down corp governance, IC, ERM, econ, and IT for sure.. not feeling operation management too much but I guess we'll see by next week.

It wouldn't be too bad if she would've elaborated a bit, but most of the time, she's just reading the stuff from the book. There's a lot of terms, especially in IT, so it would help if she would elaborate more so we understand the definitions. She should be explaining things in her own words. But she's just reading word for word from the book. Very disappointing.

I am getting ready to start studying for BEC with Yaeger. After reading this, I am getting a little worried.

What makes Yaeger better than 95% of the other CPA review courses is that their lectures are on video and they are yours to keep forever. No need to commute anywhere, no need to sit in an uncomfortable classroom and you can budget your time anyway you want. Also, you can rewind and rewatch whatever you miss and you can watch at your own pace so you can take informative, well-organized notes. So, having lectures on video is a big plus.

With BEC, Cindy was good in explaining the calculation stuff. But when it comes to theory, she just reads straight from the book. So, you do learn something from the HomeStudy lectures. Honestly, I would skip the lectures of the first 2 modules because those modules are all theory and Cindy is just reading the whole time. Starting with the Economics modules, she does read quite a bit, but there are a few calculation portions that she explain well. I think her strongest lecture was the Cost Accounting lecture (Module 47). That one, you should definitely watch! But unfortunately, Cost Accounting is only like 5% of the exam, lol.
