Well I’ve finally hit the wall, my friends. I’ve been studying for 6 months straight and I’m getting burnt out. It’s funny because I am studying my last part (reg). You would think since this is the last one I would be full of energy and motivation to finally finish this. Nope. I’m struggling to force myself to study. I mean really forcing myself. I finally managed to get through all the Becker material for reg the first time around. The good news is that I haven’t scored under 70% on any homework section. That’s good right?

I need some motivation! I still have 2 weeks but I really need to pick it up. Just tell me how much it will be worth it to finally get my CPA. Tell me how much money I will be rolling around in once I’m done. Anything please!

are you kidding???? come on, the last exam……it means you will have your life back. How many of us on this board would like nothing better than to have their life back to normal? Become a couch potato if we want to…but not have to try and plan out study hours. Vacations—holy cow, I would love to rejoin my family and society!!

Think of all the choices and opportunities you will have !!! You may choose to stay at your job, but if not, tell me it is not exciting to be able to widen your job search with 3 initials!! and fill up those empty, worn pockets!!!

Come on…snap out of it!! Peter Olinto is crashing his SL450 Mercedes convertible somewhere because he can feell this disturbance in the force. Get it going!!!

Do it! Do it!! (this is supposed to said in the same voice as Ben Stiller in Starsky and Hutch—I love that part, he is sooo funny)

Tell yourself if you DON'T sprint to the end now, its another 2-3 months of studying. Negative reinforcement (if thats what it is?) usually does wonders for me. I'd do 2 weeks of studying on my head under water listening to the Osmonds and getting a root canal at the same time to avoid having to do this during one more window!

Have you thought about changing up your study method? I was in the same situation, had rescheduled my last exam, REG, 3 times, and just couldn't get comfortable with my preparation level.

Out of desperation, I stopped using the elaborate process I had developed over the first 3 exams (involving lots of multi-colored notecards), went directly to the Yaeger cram and did exactly as instructed — i.e., worked and reviewed only the recommended MCQs and SIMs and ignored the others. It wasn't pretty, and it was my lowest score, but I passed.

I guess I took a gamble, but if I hadn't done it, I might still be studying for REG.

    @exhausted,

at least someone thinks I am funny. my kids don't. I use that “do it, do it” thing and they are like , wow mom, lame!!! me, I am laughing b/c I think it is hysterical…guess I need those pork chop sideburns……….

keep it going…little do you know that you motivate us. seeing someone almost cross gives us (me!) hope that we (I) can get there too!

@Exhausted. I have a drink then get right back on that horse. Do like the little engine. I think I can I think I can and then say I know I can. I love that little train. Man I wish I was in your shoes.

I cant wait for this to be over.

LOL @yankeeaccountant! That was funny, especially the Olinto comment 🙂

Here is what I have to say to ExhaustedCPA as I too am at the finish line with only REG to go on 8-31 (well, that is provided I passed Audit I took on Tuesday). Regrets are the worst thing to have later in life…if you screw up the next two weeks because it is more enjoyable to watch a movie, read a book or go to the beach (or whatever else you'd rather be doing), you will regret it come exam day. And then you will feel terrible from that day till scores are released. Then because you lost motivation and were not prepared, you will check your score and see a 74. So then what?! Instead of this being over, you are right back at the beginning again (at least for REG) and then try staying motivated for that!!!

This is at least what I am telling myself so that I don't start slacking now…I have to finish this and put it behind me…you do too!

“People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing – that's why we recommend it daily.”

ExhaustedCPA, I feel for you bro and all my CPA brothers and sisters. I was where you were just in April. I was so completely burnt out right before my REG exam I stopped studying 2 days before the exam and watched tv and played video games all day. I am not sure anything will motivate you. Honestly, you just have to gut it out but the day you take your last exam will be a very good day.

The last few days I think I've lost my motivation. My thing is maybe I'm a little down because I'm retaking 2 exams I already passed. I have to get back on the horse for one more month, then I can get back to my life until the score release in September.

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....

Well, just remind yourself that if you don't put in a good effort and pass those two, you will then have to retake BEC too…OMG that is almost back at the starting line…AVOID AVOID AVOID!!

Best of luck to you…you can and will do this!!

Another disturbance in the force???? What is happening?! Ok, Jomarie, “snap out of it”!!!!! Ok, I was trying to channel Cher in Moonstruck–did it work? Not so much?!

OK, I know that you want to instill sanity back into your life, this exam makes us all a bit nuts. You are right there, just do it. The thing about you is that you have passed REG before, so you know you can…….then you can get back to normalcy and camping and such with the fam.

Start up the coffee machine, pour the coke, or eat some dark chocolate (my fav!!) and git ‘r done. you betcha 🙂
