Transcripts Question

    Hey everybody

So I’ve been studying for my first exam.. I recently graduated.

I have not sent in my transcripts yet because officially I have not graduated yet, since I still had to transfer over a IT class credit from a city college to my university (something I forgot to do until 4 weeks before grad). So I have everything in order (as far as class requirements met) but my application for graduation was denied.

My question is when I send over my transcript from both city college and my university, would they figure out that I completed everything and I am suppose to be a graduate but on my transcripts it will show I do not have my degree?

I have already talked to my adviser and he is trying to fix everything; however, that may take awhile and I want to try to sit at the end of August.

    I’m in California btw.

Check with your state office of accountancy. I think most states just require completion of the hours rather than the actual degree, but someone at the state office should be able to help you.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

You should be fine to just go ahead and send in your transcripts to the CBA. Conferral of the degree is not a requirement to sit for the exam in CA. Just make sure you have all the actual units and classes posted that you need to meet all the requirements. You're fine sending transcripts from multiple colleges, thats what I had to do too, and there were no problems.

Btw, if you haven't applied yet and sent in your transcripts, I wouldnt count on being able to sit for the exam in August. It can take a long time for the Board to approve your intitial application, Id expect it to take at least two months for them to approve the intial application to sit for the exam, then it'll take more time to select sections, pay the fees, and get your NTS.

Thank you for all the responses.

@CalCPA You think if I start the process this weekend (July 2-4) that I will be able to sit for the last window (Nov-Dec) this year?

All I have to do is send over my transcripts correct? I have every major and minor accounting class complete. Business law, economics, etc. The only problem is they are all split between different schools.

Yes, all you have to do is send in transcripts and the intial application. Theres a handbook on the CBA website for first time exam takers. It'll give you step by step directions on sending the intial application and transcripts. I think if you send in your paperwork this week, there's a pretty good chance that it'll get processed in time to sit for a section during the Nov/Dec window.

On you're application you'll indicate all the schools that you'll be sending transcripts for, so they will be able to match up the transcripts they receive with your application. It may take a bit a longer to process, but its really no big deal. Lots of people use units from two or more schools.

Btw, when I first applied I signed up for all four sections on my NTS. Big mistake! You save a little bit of money, but you also have to sit for all four exams in 9 months. I ended up not being able to sit for two of the sections during that 9 month window, and lost the fees I had paid. The reapplication process is pretty quick, typically 2 weeks to get the application processed, paid, and get your NTS. So don't worry if the intial application process takes a long time, the re-application process is much easier.

    Good luck!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in California, the degree must be posted. This is straight from the 1st time exam taker handbook:

ATTENTION RECENT GRADUATES: All required coursework and degree conferral must be shown on official transcripts and/or evaluations. Prior to requesting official transcript(s), please confirm with your school that all required information has been posted.
