    Hi,

I just found out that I passed BEC. That was my last exam. I cant believe CPA is over…..I started it 9 months ago with zero confidence that I’ll pass any paper….and I did it!! I passed all papers in one go! I just felt very very thankful to all the ones I mentioned above, so thought i’d should post a thank you note 🙂

Jeff, first of all, I would have never attempted CPA had i not come across Another 71. I got so much insight about what CPA was all about from here….tried to learn from some one else’s mistakes…and always got encouraged when I was low…and worked very very hard because for many many reasons, I could not afford to fail. So then, Thank you Jeff, and all of you who make this forum so helpful to the novice, and encouraging and informative to the rest of us.

Jeff, can you please tell Cindy from my side that she’s my rockstar?? She is simply awesome!! I never studied accounts with such clear concepts! I attempted FAR first….and was very nervous about it because that’s one paper that scares most of us. I realized she works very very hard for all of us….she knows what’s important and what’s not…and her updates before the exams are very helpful….I just followed her advice …and of course put in a lot of effort…and I passed FAR. Passing FAR in the first go gave me a lot of confidence to go for other papers….REG gave me a hard time too….Dr. Yeager was very good at explaining REG…I also used Jeff’s notes for REG at the last moment….didnt have much time to study for that paper…I dont know how i passed that one!! I had studied Audit before…so wasnt much worried about that….For BEC, I had Cindy again…so I believed I would pass, and I did!

I kind of stumbled into Yeager….I always wanted to study Becker….but could not afford to do so. All the while I was studying with Yeager for FAR, I wished I could afford Becker…and had a hint of doubt towards Yeager (as it was my first paper, i didnt know how i would fare)…well, all those doubts vanished after I knew that I passed FAR….I cant say if Yeager is better than the rest….because I havent used anything else, I cant compare it to other courses…all i can say is Yeager works!! and Cindy rocks!! 😉

There was another thing I used to motivate myself….so thought I should share it with all of you. I dont have to tell you about the times you wish you had never thought of doing CPA because it seems so impossible, right? For different reasons….sometimes you’re tired…sometimes you wish you were having fun….sometimes too lazy to study…etc etc…I had 7 quotations (collected from I dont know where…) written in colorful papers and pasted on the wall above my study desk….these quotations always inspired me to work….just wanted to share them with you.

    – I can accept failure, but I cannot accept not trying — Michael Jordan

    – As a cure of worrying, work is better than whiskey

    Thomas Alva Edison

    – Success is 10% Inspiration and 90% Perspiration

    Thomas Alva Edison

    – Do not confuse motion and progress. A rocking horse keeps moving but does not make any progress

(I find this one very relevant…there were times I spent hours reading through a chapter and not taking time to understand….or take notes….and this reminded me that it’s not how many hours you spend studying that actually matters….it is how effectively you study)

    – Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired

(Very very relevant to me at times!)

    – It is height of absurdity to sow little but weeds in the first half of one’s lifetime and expect to harvest a valuable crop in the second half

(So yes, study properly from the start….you cant cram in at the end and expect to pass…well, unless you are very very lucky!!)

-Some people dream of success….while others wake up and work hard at it

(Every morning when i wanted to go back to bed…this kept me awake….and of course, mugs and mugs of coffee!!)

Thank you all once again. Wish all of you all the very best, for CPA…jobs….and whatever aspirations you have in life.

    Regards,

    Dharana

Going to the gym really helps me concentrate and my overall happiness! Health is #1 priority for anyone, gym every day should be a new CPA prerequisite! Are you a november '87 child also? I am! 🙂

I agree big shot, there should be a requisite that all CPA licensees must be able to complete a 5k haha. Also, went to the gym today and had a good workout…so now i feel better about going to starbucks and sitting there for 10 hours studying AUD, lol.

And go us! i hope we both pass this thing as a birthday gift!!!

    FAR: 8/5/2010 - 89

Thank you all of you!! Good luck to all of you.

Along with my quotations, I also pasted my notes all over the room….in kitchen, bathroom, bedroom….and of course around my desk….that helped me revise constantly….and somehow I am more comfortable making notes in loose sheets instead of a notebook….i make notes with colorful pens…and use lots of pictures and graphs to memorize….making a similarity and differences table helps a lot to memorize stuffs….specially tax rules….I still have my BEC notes all around me….didnt take them off…just in case i'd need them again. Well, no longer!! I'm glad!

Try that! Use colorful pens and make notes…and paste them all over…..so that you cant avoid looking at them….even when you are lazy to turn pages of bulky books….you will not mind looking at one page of colorful paper pasted on your wall…and it's actually easier to remember when things are written in different colors…use very bright colors…i use lot of red, green and blue pens….and eye shocking highlighters…..it really works!

Again, my best wishes to all of you. Share your ideas too…how do you study? It may help someone else pass this test.
