    Hey, Gang,

For those who’ve taken FAR, did you use the spreadsheet tool when working the MCs or did you only use paper and pencil?

Am I correct in thinking that the spreadsheet tool is available for both MCs and sims? (I’m trying to download the sample test from the AICPA’s website now, but it’s taking awhile.)

Okay, I just looked at the AICPA's sample exam, and it doesn't show a spreadsheet tool in the FAR multiple choice.

Uh oh…hopefully someone has a definitive answer for this. I've been using a spreadsheet to do all my work this whole review process :-/

Me too, Jimbo. I did a quick Google search and it looks like there is no spreadsheet available for the MCs. If that's the case, I need to stop using it during my study sessions ASAP! Crap!

Assuming it's not on the actual exam MCs, why would Becker put that in PassMaster MCs. $^%*!

    Jimbo,

You may need to switch over to paper and pencil for a couple days of practice that way. Ugh. I hope I'm wrong.

I fear that the spreadsheet tool is only for some of the sims and not for the MCs. Yikes!!!

I'm going to sleep now. Good night!

Good luck on the 27th, Jimbo!

There's only a calculator for the MCs question. There is a spreadsheet tool for the SIMS.

RedRage is right. The only tools you have for the MCQ are the online calculator and your scratch paper and pencil. For the SIMS you also have access to the research tab. You only have access to a spreadsheet if a SIM calls for completion of spreadsheet cells. Keep in mind, though, that this isn't an Excel spreadsheet. It's similar but not identical, and there are some limitations as to what can be entered into the cells.

For the MCQs, you only get a calculator as shown in my free “50 Things…”: https://www.another71.com/50-things/

For the SIMS – you get a spreadsheet if the tab uses it for the answers.

I'd also like to point out that the spreadsheet doesn't have limitless amounts of cells like an Excel spreadsheet. I had to do a lot of long and complicated calculations for REG and ran out of space!

Yes – the spreadsheet is terrible. I recommend using your calculator instead of =A1+B1 … etc

Thanks, everyone! Looks like I need to quit using the spreadsheet when I do my PassMaster MCs effective immediately.

    @Jeff,

I read through your “50 Things…” document. Excellent piece! Anyone who hasn't read it yet should definitely take a look at it as it contains quite a bit of helpful information on all sorts of topics related to the exam, studying, and what goes on after you pass.

does it matter if you use a formula or can you just type in the numbers? for the becker sims, i've a tendency to just punch in the answer in the cell…i don't want to lose credit if it's scored based upon the spreadsheet formula!

You can just key in the answers. That's actually easier in my opinion.

I must admit this is a blow to my ways….I initially was using the spreadsheet function so much because I thought I would have to use it on the exam. I used to be more comfortable using paper…oh well, I'll adapt. Could be worse.
