So what does a 72 mean?

I just found out that I got a 72 on my BEC exam. What does this mean? I know that I did well and I know that this doesn’t mean I only got 72% of my questions correct. I’m just wondering if anyone has any insight into such a borderline score?

The official line is that it means you haven't yet demonstrated to the AICPA knowledge sufficient to protect the best interest of the public as a CPA.

The truth is its the same as a 52. You have to start from scratch as if you've never taken the exam before in your life.

See my AUD scores below? I studied even harder AFTER I got that 71 than I did after the 49.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Compared to the previous 54, 72 means you have really improved a great deal and that you have a great chance at passing when you take the test in the 2nd window. Keep studying hard (include a lot of praying); you will get it next window.

It means that you're definitely close, but you're conceptually weak in a few areas.

Like others have said, treat the 72 like a 52. Just because you were close on this test, doesn't necessarily mean you will be again. You could get drilled with questions on weak areas next time around and do worse.

Don't think that you only need 3 points to pass. Think you need 75 points to pass and review everything again like you would taking the test for the first time.

    BEC - 77 (lost credit), 4/5/13
    AUD - 83
    REG - 77
    FAR - 73, 74, 80! One more to go!!

I agree with everyone above.. I received a 74 on BEC in October 2012. I re-wrote my notes, re-read sections of the book I felt weak on, and did MCQ like crazy. I passed my retake after only studying 4 weeks. It wasnt a glorious score but it was over 75. Just pay attention to everything again. Good luck!
