    My current boss is OK, but he is not a CPA, and he does not know I passed the exam. I am afraid he might think I am leaving if he finds out, so I hesitate to let him know before I have a next good job in hand. Meanwhile I want to get my experience toward my license,so I am getting a 2nd job(part-time) at a local CPA firm where I have to work minimum 20 hours per week, which I need to let my boss know about. Should I tell him about the exam and my trying for my license? If not,how should I explain to him I must work min 20 hours per week for a part-time job? Thanks!

    @87,

    you are welcome, just don't overwhelm yourself is what i am trying to say, I had been there before, where I just wanted to do it, but ended up getting sick and actually got NOTHING done, had to call in and said I am sick so couldn't make it, or I tried my best to go to class but ended up just staring at the teacher and couldn't pay any attention cause I was so sick.

    Yep, I'm in agreement with See Pee A, just say that you're going to provide quality work like you do now (and maybe come in a little earlier a few days), but that you have student loans and other extra bills to pay (and he can't fight that unless he agrees to pay you more). Don't mention it's a CPA firm, say it's administrative work for an acquaintance.

    I would just naturally assume the worst and assume that he'll find you “moving up in the world” a threat to his business plans (and probably an insult to him personally). He doesn't need to know that you passed and that you're looking to collect experience & time for your license, b/c that's just pre-telling him that you're going to leave (which it sounds like you are going to do eventually), and he'll just start interviewing for your cheaper replacement as soon as possible.

    Couldn't pass again!

    Whatever you decide to do, BE HONEST…say things exactly as they are…if you lie, trust me, sooner or later the truth will come out and will jeopardize not only your current job but reputation as well…. the latter being one of the most important qualities of a CPA. Good luck!

    “Honesty is the best policy”

    Accounting is based on ethics and integrity…

    I'm not sure about what I wrote last night…I wouldn't be sure of what to do if I were in your situation and would probably ask advice myself 🙂

    A person has to be honest, but s/he can also act wisely…
