Serious Dilemma… need advice ASAP

    In short, I applied for an extension for my AUD credit (expires April 30th) because of the late score release for Q2. The board denied my request. My argument was that I’d lose half of May, all of July, and half of August to retake any exams because I wont know my Q2 scores until mid August.

    so now Im down to two options:

    Option 1: roll the dice and try to pass FAR and BEC by April 30th. Ive taken both recently. I failed FAR with a 63 in Nov and failed BEC with a 71 a couple weeks ago.

    Option 2: let AUD expire, take BEC late April, and take FAR in July. This option gives me more time to study obviously but the problem is I will of course lose AUD.

    Im freaking out because I had good vibes they would grant me the extension.

    Thanks,

    Jon

    It expires April 30th? The late Q2 score release doesn't have any affect on you as far as losing credit for that exam.

    Have you been studying FAR since the day you took BEC? You should be 40-60 hours into studying for that retake and if so I'd try for FAR first week of April use every minute to study and then BEC by April 30.

    One of my co-workers has a similar problem. Unfortunately, from what I've heard, is you really don't have much of an option until you know the results of the exams. If you pass BEC and FAR (even after AUD expires) you might have a shot appealing to the state and they'll consider extending it the AUD expiration. Just keep studying like you find out the score at a normal time and hope the board shows some leniency since it's pretty jacked with a lot of people having this issue.

    Although your scores won't get released until August, the scores you have won't expire as long as you sit for the tests you have before the date of expiration of the previous tests. One thing that is kind of hidden is that you do have 10 days at the end of Q3 2017 that you can fit a test in that quarter in. Obviously, it is difficult to do so, but possible. Remember, the AICPA and the state boards don't care about you and you are fighting them the whole time.

    Mitch, I'm a little confused about your explanation.

    Are you saying that I could take one of my exams in July, after AUD expired, and I'd be fine? Something doesn't sound right about that…

    @CPACandidate3…

    Yes, the late score release does have an impact on me! If I do not know my scores for BEC and FAR until August, then I essentially am losing half of May, July, and half of August to re-take any of my sections.

    This is the explanation my board gave me:

    “Jon,
    The Board denied the request at this time due to if you pass BEC FAR when you take the test, your AUD grade will stand and because you wouldn’t have been able to retake the failed sections before the April 30th deadline.”

    I don't understand the latter portion.

    They're saying if you fail bec or FAR in April, you can't retake either before AUD expires on April 30. The wait affects you the same as everyone else.

    I am not sure why they would deny my request if the wait affected me the same as everyone else.

    Do you think I should schedule BEC on April 30, and FAR in July, and keep pushing to get an extension by the Board between now and April 30th?

    you're asking for more than 18 months on your AUD score and they don't usually extend that time for everyone who asks unless there were extenuating circumstances within those 18 months. You're asking for an extension based on something that happens after your 18 months. The delay doesn't mean you had less than 18 months to pass all four like someone whose score expires in July that may have been able to knock out one more in Q3 before their exam score expires and were effectively limited to five testing windows vs the stated 6 to pass.

    If I were you considering the exam changing and your score in FAR isn't that close, I would take the second option which is take BEC in May and take FAR at the end of july and retake audit on the 10th of september especially you seem good at audit considering your score.

    Good luck in your exams!

    @jonm857

    You have absolutely 0% chance at an extension. If you did then so would every single person taking the exam. Unless you you have a credit expiring in Q3 before the late score release there is no merit for an extension that just about any other test taker wouldn't have.
