    Hey All,

Longtime reader, first time posting person (is that what we call it? I’m going to go with that). I just go my scores back for REG and AUD. I got a 57 on AUD and a 53 on REG (I failed in July with a 43). I need help. What study tactics/ materials are you guys using? I felt super confident about AUD (clearly I should’t have) and REG I thought I failed, but not by THAT much.

I feel like a failure. These aren’t 70’s scores…their not even above 60. I’m not sure what I’m doing to get such low scores. I use Wiley Excel and for REG I hammered out the Test bank for 7 weeks (as it was a retake), and AUD I went through each lesson and an extensive review for 2.5 months.

I’m not sure where to go from here. All I know is I’m depressed and I’m close to quitting my firm and just being a teacher so I don’t have to go through the long nights, non-social weekends, and ultimate rejection at the end.

    Signed,
    Always-Below-60

Naw man – you can pass. Look at my scores. I just passed REG and am done. I used Wiley as well and had a hard time even grasping the concept of basis for REG when I got a 55.

I did things very differently. After I got my second 72, what I did differently was create an Excel spreadsheet of all the rules and concepts that were taught for review since tax is something I don't do and there is differences in terms of gain / loss recognition's.

I started with property transactions and wrote down the concepts taught until I understood it, then moved on to individual, partnership and corporate according to the way Wiley structured the lectures. I did not write notes for ethics and biz law but I did all the homework assignments.

I made sure to understand what the concept was behind the question. If I didn't understand, even though I knew what the right answer was, I would try to understand why that was the right answer.

I'm glad that I created the Excel spreadsheet since I was able to use it to finally pass REG and get done with the CPA.

Gotta give yourself some tough love and then pull yourself up by your bootstraps. Clearly however you are studying isn’t working…if you hammered Wiley for 7 weeks, and scored in the 50s, something doesn’t compute there.

How many mcqs did you do? What were you averaging on practice exams and homework? Did you take notes? How many pages? Do you have Flashcards? How many times did you rewatch videos?

@JWA2LAX- the Excel tip is really helpful! I'll defiantly be using that second time around

@Cards18- For AUD I went through 50% of the MCQ and all the SIMs (maybe like 5x each) for Wiley and went through all the lessons. I usually go thorough all the lessons and then do the MCQ and SIMS. For REG (my retake) I went through all the MCQ (a lot just 1x b/c they havy 1600 MCQ) and then went through the SIMS multiple times. Looking back, I think I could have done more, but I felt like I was doing a ton. I generally would do the MCQ or SIMS and then takes notes in a Word Doc, but never look at them. Videos don't help me, I'm not a visual learner. I averaged maybe 120MCQ a day, seeing as I would stop and take notes and have to retake ones I got wrong. I was averaging 80-90 on the MCQ and the Practice Exams I was not averaging well on at all (maybe 70). I know I need a new strategy, but I have no idea where to start. Do I just do MCQ after MCQ? Do I focus on SIMS? Do I do it for “x” amount of time each day or “x amount of questions? I work full time (and some plus, it's always audit season), so I generally am exhausted by the time I start my studying.

Thanks all for any help you can provide. I'm…stuck.
