@ddrudd: What about a PTIN? Would that work to sign returns? I have one just so I can access the FTB payments site but I'm not sure if it is good to sign returns with. I am a long way from signing returns at my firm – I think that is just for the partners here 🙂

BTW, what masters programs are you looking into? I just started looking into Golden Gate University's Masters of Taxation online program. Are there any others that are notable?

@eangle – i don't think it will let me sign returns. i'd have to get EA to do federal returns i think? or CTEC at the very least. TBH i'm not really sure, but i know i have to be somehow certified to be a return preparer in order to sign. but the larger issue is, my firm really wants the more prestigious letters after my name… (and i don't disagree!)

A few of my managers have completed the program or are currently going through the program. Each class takes approximately 15-20 hours per week so I plan on taking one class during the Summer trimester (May – Aug) and one during the fall trimester (Sept – Dec). That makes it a five year program, but a lot to absorb so that may be better to take it slow.
You are planning on starting the program in January? That seems like a nightmare through busy season!

Perhaps this is more of a rant than question. However, I recently sat for BEC in Maine (October 22nd) and have not received my score yet. Many believe that this is due to being on the “bubble”. My question is; how do we know that we are on a bubble? It appears to me that there have been an extremely minimal amount of BECscores that actually have been received. The majority of us are still waiting. That brings me to my next point; if this is indeed not a bubble and NASBA is just delayed in releasing the BEC scores, what is taking so long? Either we truely are on a bubble and therefore it is ridiculous that we are still waiting as in my case they have had 4 weeks to look at my results. Or, if we aren't on a bubble; why are the scores sooo delayed? NASBA needs to get their act together. Somehow I feel re-markedly better:)
